Freemake Video Converter is an application mainly for converting video files to other formats, but offers other converting and downloading features as well.

This application is a worthwhile download. The layout is very simple, making it easy to understand how to use it. Freemake offers a row of media buttons at the top and bottom of the window, which are labeled clearly and are simple to use. It is very easy to navigate the various steps required to convert videos and audio as well as download videos and audio from the Internet. The waiting time varies from one conversion job to the next, depending on the size and type. Converting a t3-minute audio file to MP3 can be done in less than a minute, while converting a 15-minute video to WMV can take over an hour and a half.

The program's Help pages are very good. The tutorials come with a short video as well as images which are very easy to understand. There seem to be a lot of hidden gems in this converter as well, such as a few editing features for videos and the ability to add subtitles to your videos when you rip them from your DVDs. You can also convert photos and have plenty of conversion options.

"You get to raise worms & horses (Trojans...)"

August 08, 2012  |  By etand67

 |  Version: Freemake Video Converter 3.0.2.12

Pros

The comments on Cnet

Cons

Installs by default 'End Animal Cruelty' toolbar and that's only the beginning of the cruelty you experience by a variety of pests such as worms and Trojans

Summary

I got all exited by what I read here, while installing I wished this may put an end to incompatibility of videos from my various recording phones & compact/video cameras however....
I was surprised to see my browser shut down but thought it's just a resource-intensive installation... OK. As the program launchd it relaunched the browser too and.... I had another toolbar full of emoticons and game links. OK, let's remove it, I thought.
Start>Programs>Freemake>Uninstall.... a popup window alerts that an unknown program wants to access your computer ??? Never seen this on removal before... OK, let's try it differently

I go to Control Panel> Add/Remove Programs> We-Care (the 'End Animal Cruelty' toolbar)> Uninstall... A popup 'The uninstaller for this program can not be accessed'... Hmmm... If they don't provide their own uninstaller, lets try another way.

I go to CCleaner application>Tools>Uninstall.... same popup.

Now, with installing with no consent and making impossible to remove I was ready to remove the Video Converter application as well... something just feels wrong about this Freebee.

I ended up restoring my computer (Safe mode> Repair your computer > Restore...)to an earlier date.

Yet even after rebooting post-restoration the computer froze so hard even the courser stalled for long minutes untill I shutdwn by the power button and relaunched in Safe Mode with Networking, in which I now write this report.

Stay away... I wasted an hour as a pro user, could mean much more downtime and resource guzzling pest running in the background for beginners.

Updated on Aug 8, 2012

It also swapped my default search engine (for typing a search term in the address bar) from Google to Bing. Even the restoring to a previous restore point haven't reversed this.

"This program is AWESOME"

July 28, 2012  |  By katfemme89

 |  Version: Freemake Video Converter 3.0.2.12

Pros

Simple, user-friendly interface
Fast file conversion
Appealing layout
TOTALLY FREE!!!!!!!!!

Cons

Took a while to download and install
Wish I'd found it sooner!

Summary

My Canon Powershot camera saves all video files as .mov and for a five minute movie the file size is somewhere around 400mb, WAY too big to keep many videos on my computer and they take FOREVER to upload to youtube, and are just generally a complete pain in the ass. I tried about ten movie converters before this, and each one failed MISERABLY. Either the converted video wouldn't play at all, or the picture would start jerking halfway in, or the audio wouldn't sync up to the video. Also, the other programs all had TERRIBLE interfaces, and only a computer expert would know how to work them. All the other programs SUCKED but Freemake is so fast and easy it converted my MOVs to WMV in no time with virtually NO QUALITY LOSS AT ALL. I wish I'd found this a LOT sooner before I'd tried all those other P.O.S. programs.

4) ready presets for mobiles
5) it's free and beautiful, what else?

Summary

Clean, beautiful, powerfull... THE BEST!

"Once the best freeware program around. Now,it's crap."

July 05, 2012  |  By Krupotkin

 |  Version: Freemake Video Converter 3.0.2.12

Pros

It's free, so all I spend is my time --and I still feel like I'm getting ripped off.

Cons

It's a bug-filled nightmare. It crashes regularly. Make a DVD and you can almost count on a patch of it coming out broken up and pixillated.

Summary

There are too many good programs out there for me to waste any more time on this garbage.

Updated on Jul 6, 2012

I also love the way, when it crashes, it asks you to send an error report and asks you to submit your e-mail if you want to hear back from their experts. Don't bother. You won't hear back and the bug will never get fixed. I cannot stress this strongly enough. Freemake absolutely sucks.

"Great video converter"

July 04, 2012  |  By SLWeber70

 |  Version: Freemake Video Converter 3.0.2.12

Pros

Freemake Video Converter does just what it says it does with no problems. I was having difficulty burning some video files to DVD - some of them were AVI files that shouldn't have been a problem. Other formats don't work with all video players. One swipe with Freemake is all it takes to play and burn them successfully. It's also great for resizing files to make them more manageable.

Cons

As with any software these days, you always need to be careful not to install any adware, toolbars, or other programs which slow down your system that may be piggybacking on the download.

Summary

Freemake is great for converting and managing all your video files.
