Freemake Video Converter is an application mainly for converting video files to other formats, but offers other converting and downloading features as well.

This application is a worthwhile download. The layout is very simple, making it easy to understand how to use it. Freemake offers a row of media buttons at the top and bottom of the window, which are labeled clearly and are simple to use. It is very easy to navigate the various steps required to convert videos and audio as well as download videos and audio from the Internet. The waiting time varies from one conversion job to the next, depending on the size and type. Converting a t3-minute audio file to MP3 can be done in less than a minute, while converting a 15-minute video to WMV can take over an hour and a half.

The program's Help pages are very good. The tutorials come with a short video as well as images which are very easy to understand. There seem to be a lot of hidden gems in this converter as well, such as a few editing features for videos and the ability to add subtitles to your videos when you rip them from your DVDs. You can also convert photos and have plenty of conversion options.

"best out there"

January 11, 2012  |  By koalafishy

 |  Version: Freemake Video Converter 3.0.1

Pros

very nice interface with unbeatable simplicity
very quick converter to all major formats no problems
updated regularly
COMPLETELY FREE!!!

Cons

audio for mp4 downloads doesn't work on idevices. not a problem as there is a whole section for apple devices but it is annoying as the video still works even though the sound doesn't

had some issues with dvd's not working, although as this is not its main purpose and i have better purpose built software i let this slide

Summary

Brilliant converter that can't be beaten. good quality in record time. used to wait 30 mins for a 45 minute conversion now takes 10 or less!!!!

nothing wrong with it

"Full of Malware -Don't install unless you are an expert"

March 28, 2014  |  By mytmoss

 |  Version: Freemake Video Converter 3.0.1

Pros

Software works well as advertised.

Cons

The install process is full of malware. I have lots of experience in getting rid of malware and it took me hours to remove it after installing Freemake. Pay for malware free software rather than risk the damage done.

Summary

Stay away

"Seems just great so far!"

March 25, 2012  |  By harster

 |  Version: Freemake Video Converter 3.0.1

Pros

I went to the website to update and realized this program can do way more than I thought. I'll definitely make good use of it. So far I've only had the chance to use it once. I converted a video already on my PC, converted one from YouTube and then burned them both on a DVD for a friend with an old DVD player that wouldn't play newer formats. It worked perfectly and was sooo easy to use.

Cons

It wouldn't go get me a beer.

Summary

I can't wait to try some of the other features.

"Excellent software I came across"

March 20, 2012  |  By howaotto

 |  Version: Freemake Video Converter 3.0.1

Pros

Everything on the Freemake worked smoothly.

Cons

Not too sure if updates are necessary all the time unlike others but Freemake allows you to check details of their update fixes.

Summary

I chose not to install the toolbar by simply unticking the box in the option menu.

I wholeheartedly recommend Freemake Converter and Freemake Downloader.

"Very easy to use!"

March 08, 2012  |  By red-cat2

 |  Version: Freemake Video Converter 3.0.1

Pros

Freemake Video Converter was very easy to use - created a DVD playable on any DVD player in a matter of minutes, complete with episode menu.

Cons

The episode menu did NOT have episode titles despite the fact that the original files had titles listed - I didn't see any way to change the options in order to add titles.

"Doesn't do much, and has spyware forced upon you"

February 20, 2012  |  By thomasprewit

 |  Version: Freemake Video Converter 3.0.1

Pros

Its free. It can apparently export to different formats. Useful for cutting out parts of a film you don't want.

Cons

There is no option to stop it from loading up in the background every time I turn on my computer. Also, it tries to access the internet even if I don't load it. It can cut part out of a video, but no way to paste it anywhere, or just keep the part you selected.

Summary

When you go to install it, you can choose the option to not have Bling toolbar added. So that's no major complaint. You still get spyware no matter what you have. I wonder what exactly its doing. Hit Ctrl Al Del to see Program Manager, and you see it there always.
