Editors' Review

Freemake Video Converter is an application mainly for converting video files to other formats, but offers other converting and downloading features as well.

This application is a worthwhile download. The layout is very simple, making it easy to understand how to use it. Freemake offers a row of media buttons at the top and bottom of the window, which are labeled clearly and are simple to use. It is very easy to navigate the various steps required to convert videos and audio as well as download videos and audio from the Internet. The waiting time varies from one conversion job to the next, depending on the size and type. Converting a t3-minute audio file to MP3 can be done in less than a minute, while converting a 15-minute video to WMV can take over an hour and a half.

The program's Help pages are very good. The tutorials come with a short video as well as images which are very easy to understand. There seem to be a lot of hidden gems in this converter as well, such as a few editing features for videos and the ability to add subtitles to your videos when you rip them from your DVDs. You can also convert photos and have plenty of conversion options.

"IT WAS A AWESOME PRODUCT BUT 5 MONTHS LATER I WAS WRONG"

July 07, 2013  |  By maw1234

 |  Version: Freemake Video Converter 2.1.0.2

Pros

i got this program on the free-make website
I been using free-make since December 2012 it worked fine for 4 updates since then :)

Cons

When i installed the 5th update all of a sudden it said that it was a untrustworthy file. I tried getting it again but the same thing happened.

Summary

Free-make was awesome for videos and mp3 music for a little while. But i am very sad this program is no longer is a trustworthy file.

"O.K. but the program hogs CPU time when it's idle."

September 15, 2012  |  By i068

 |  Version: Freemake Video Converter 2.1.0.2

Pros

Free and working

Cons

The program hogs notable CPU time even it's not doing any converting , not sure what's being done in background? latest version 3.1.1 has similar issue.

Summary

Overall it's good. It would nice if it can use less CPU time when it's idle. Have some concerns what's been doing in the background.

"Simply the best."

March 17, 2011  |  By iambriansreed

 |  Version: Freemake Video Converter 2.1.0.2

Pros

Easy to use. Wide range of capabilities.

Cons

Took the runtime of the DVD to rip.

Summary

I would pay $50 dollars for this software. It backed up my A-Team DVD straight to mp4 (for my iPod 4) in two click. Super easy.

I also had some old rips of my DVDs that it converted from avi to mp4.

I love this thing!

Pros

Has converted everything I have thrown at it and does a great job of combining all the needed features without overhead. ps.. It's FREE!

Cons

Took a while to find online.

Summary

Better exposure would make this product mainstream. Well developped and more than worth trying.

"AVG detects as malware/Trojan virus. Boo!"

March 15, 2011  |  By EverythingIsTaken

 |  Version: Freemake Video Converter 2.1.0.2

Pros

None. Refused to use the program since it was detected as a Trojan virus during installation and I immediately quarantined it.

Cons

AVG detected the program as a Trojan virus during installation. This is very unfortunate, because I was excited to use the program after reading the first several reviews, which all had great things to say about the program.

Summary

Tried to give zero stars, but my submission was denied because of since I didn't give any star rating. The first FLV to MOV converter I came across through a CNET link in a Google search indicated the download was spyware free, but the only two reviews warned that it was a virus, so I avoided this one. Freemake had numerous reviews and most were touting the program as great. The CNET download link again indicated it was tested spyware free. I think it's very poor of CNET to allow these downloads to remain available. There should be a better screening process to ensure that downloads provided through this reputable source are in fact safe.

March 12, 2011  |  By Ueiji

 |  Version: Freemake Video Converter 2.1.0.2

Pros

Very easy to understand
Hassle free and east to configure
saved me from having to spend another few hours searching for a compatible video converter for my videos

Cons

Non for far.

Summary

If your reading this, then why not try this converter first before trying various other free ones. If I had known, I wouldn't of had to download several other various video converters!!
