    "Nothing but Malware"

    April 15, 2014  |   By scorpiomaj27

    Version: FreeOCR 4.2

    Pros

Never got to use the OCR, but got my search hijacked and about a dozen warnings and blocks from ESET NOD32. On the bright side, my NOD32 protected me for the most part, except I was dumb enough to hit ALLOW a couple times.

    Cons

This is nothing but malware and a firefox search hijacker of the search.conduit variety.

    Summary

    DO NOT DOWNLOAD.

    "Bad download system and malware"

    March 17, 2014  |   By pmlang01

    Version: FreeOCR 4.2

    Pros

None. I could never even get the program loaded.

    Cons

When I tried to download, I kept being diverted to other programs to download. I was never able to load the OCR program, and I ended up with malware hijacking my internet browser. I wish I'd known where to look for the reviews before I ever touched this.

    Summary

I will NEVER, NEVER, EVER download anything from this site again.

    "Junk - full of malware"

    February 15, 2014  |   By merrietoo

    Version: FreeOCR 4.2

    Pros

There are none as far as I'm concerned

    Cons

Malware - that should be enough for the 'cons'section

    Summary

This teaches me to not trust that Download.com's 'virus and malware check' is trustworthy. Now I'm wary of downlading any software from this site. I will also be sure to read reviews since I now see that several people did warn against the malware - and have been doing so for over a year!

    Updated on Feb 15, 2014

It installs malware. I declined all the extras and still ended up getting constant popups and hijacks. This thing is JUNK.

    "Infected with malware."

    February 8, 2014  |   By rikketsia

    Version: FreeOCR 4.2

    Pros

    I have not gotten there

    Cons

IT IS INFECTED WITH BROWSER HIJACKING MALWARE

    Summary

There were user agreements, I declined. Yet it continued to install and before you know it I had malware installed. I immediately cleaned it. So I am questioning C-NET's reliability now, for keeping this piece of thing in their list despite all of these warnings and reviews.

    "FreeOCR requires substantial editing."

    October 16, 2013  |   By DiggemDaddy

    Version: FreeOCR 4.2

    Pros

none, I found nothing good about this product

    Cons

be prepared to spend considerable cleaning up the mess it creates. on my 1 page document it failed to recognize any any number 0-9 and misspelled almost every word.

    Summary

If you don't have an OCR program look else where. I compared FreeOCR with Adobe ABBYY FineReader 5.0 Sprint which read this same document without any errors
