"junk software and PERSISTENT MALWARE"
Version: Free Sound Recorder 7.9.2
Pros
Nothing open-source software like Audacity doesn't do a dozen times better. I suspect the only reason this program is so popular is because of the "Googleability" of its name.
Cons
The program itself is quite feature-sparse and primitive compared to its free and paid competitors, but over and above that it will infect your computer with malware that persists even after a thorough uninstallation.
Summary
Give Audacity a try instead--the sound recording is simpler to use, you get access to all sorts of sound editing capabilities in the bargain, it's open-source and more importantly it's clean. There is really no reason to download FreeSoundRecorder unless you're using the computer of somebody you hate and want to put some annoying, somewhat obtrusive, and difficult to remove freeware on it.

"WHAT HAPPENED CNET??!!!!"
Version: Free Sound Recorder 9.3.1
Pros
None. This turned into a headache.
Cons
I've downloaded not so great software from CNET before..but an easy uninstall gets rid of it and I'm on to something else. This "Free Sound Recorder" -took over- my pc.
Not only did it install the toolbar after I told it not to, it changed all of my internet settings and kept crashing my pc. It crashed my internet explorer and even google chrome. My pc kept crashing and it took me 30 minutes trying to get to uninstall screen...even then I couldn't get a clean uninstall. The software is STILL in my system causing havoc.
Now I have to see what damage this software has done. Not freaking happy right now. Oh and btw, the software does absolutely nothing to top it off. (I downloaded it to record streaming audio).Summary
DO NOT DOWNLOAD!!!!!
And for those who think I didn't read before installing...I READ EVERYTHING AND EXPRESSLY CHECKED NO TO INSTALL ANYTHING BESIDES THE SOFTWARE!

"Very Nice Recorder"
Version: Free Sound Recorder 9.3.1
Pros
Scheduler
Simplicity
It's freeCons
none so far
Summary
I have only used the basic recorder so far, and it is so easy if you have any experience at all with a recorder. I have not used the editor yet, but it looks like any other editor and I expect it to be easy as well. What I really love about this recorder is the scheduler. I can schedule it to record Internet broadcasts automatically. Awesome!
For those who have had problems with a toolbar being installed, here is what you are missing. It isn't just a matter of deselecting checkboxes, you have to fully read each dialog that appears during the installation. There is one where there are Decline, I Accept, and Cancel buttons. If you click I Accept, you are *agreeing* to install the Free Sound Recorder Toolbar. This has nothing to do with the checkboxes. Instead, click the Decline button. This is to prevent the toolbar from being installed while still continuing to install the sound recorder. Again, carefully read each dialog and don't just gloss over them like most of us do. ;-) I had no problems with the installation and all that installed is the recorder.... no toolbars or any other thing. -
"Perfect for me!"
Version: Free Sound Recorder 9.3.1
Pros
I have just saved an old English course with 12 magnetic tapes in the mp3 format. Also you can trim/cut at the right points. You have two bars that indicate with colors the sound intensity, allowing you to adjust the right volume for recording. Easy.
Cons
user friendly, does what you want it to, and also came with other programs to help me record
Summary
i would recommend it cause im looking for something thats safe and free, and this is the exactly program that i want

"This Is Hijack Material"
Version: Free Sound Recorder 9.3.1
Pros
It works... but at a cost
Cons
Forcibly installs toolbar to your service even without your permission. I specifically clicked to not install the toolbar yet it still did.
Summary
I just reported them to all ad agencies they are using and embedding their code into. They use this freeware to force an install of their toolbar on your machine. Even when you choose to not install the toolbars they still do. These guys need to be sued... put in jail for fraud if possible
