Version: Free File Splitter 1
"Performs it's duty at the cost of spyware/trojan installation."
Pros: It does the job it claims to do. It's a file splitter, and nothing more.
Cons: This does install a browser helper object (ad/spyware) and my virus scanner found 3 trojans upon installation. If you need a filesplitter, this is a decent choice as it's 'free' but it comes at the cost of PC security.

Pros: Works efficiently and as expected. I especially liked the automatic rejoiner file, which makes rejoining the parts very simple, without needing this program.
Cons: It is very simple, so if you need fancy features, you'd better look somewhere else.

Pros: It was small and fast...
Cons: I really need the splitter to keep the lines together...it would split a line right in 1/2. It would be nice to have the option to split after a carriage return.

"Description overrates product ability"
Cons: Description said "There are no limitations on the file size, meaning that you can use the program to split huge files into any size you wish. " I want to break a 10.5 gig file into 4 gig files to burn to DVD for archive. Software replies "Error: Size is too large" when I attempt this. Obviously you can not split file into any size you wish.

"Works great, fast and free; No need for any programs to rejoin"
Pros: I particulary like this program the best out of two free splitters I tried. I tried this first because it can rejoin them without a program. When the splitting occurs, a .bat file is automatically created. The .bat file is a simple DOS command copy /b all the pieces back into one. That means if you send the files to someone, they can rejoin them without them needing the program. The program works by clicking on a filename, clicking an output directory and a user specified split size. The split size is inputted as a number with a KB or MB radio button.
Ok, so after I was already convinced on this program, I decided to try another one and do a speed test with another program that had great reviews (the 41Kb one). I noticed immediately it has a splice button which means you/recipient has to use the program to join them. Since the programs dont need to be fancy, speed is the thing I really want.
Ok, so I take a 730Mb ISO file for my test and I'm using a 1.0 Ghz with Ultra DMA 66 drives.
I chose 100Mb chunks. This program split it in 42 seconds and pasted it (with the self-generated .bat file using DOS' copy /b command) in 1:37. The other program was 56 seconds to split and 2:27 to join them (using its own program to join).
So with that in mind, it doesn't take a genious to figure this one out. This program is definitely going onto a CD for archiving :)
Cons: None that I can think of, except it doesn't split in 1 second
