Version: Free FLV Converter 6.5
"Performed as advertised and then stopped working."
Pros: Lightweight, fast, decently well organized.
Cons: Bugs, lack of any documentation, perhaps not exactly freeware as advertised.
Summary: The program functioned well the first time I used it. At first it didn't recognize the web addresses I put in, but later seemed to work. The 2nd time I booted the program up, it successfully downloaded the flv file, but failed to start converting the file to the avi. There were no prompts, or no options in which to force the conversion process. I retried the file download several times with several different addresses, all with no success.
A flv file was not saved anywhere on the computer where i can access it prior to the conversion, so i could not manually convert the file with the built in convertor (which I haven't tested). Clicking the help button only provides a link in which to purchase this piece of "Freeware" for $19. According to the prompt, if I pay $19, there is no limit to the amount of website downloads and research, which leads me to believe the reason the program stopped converting the files in the first place was because I downloaded my limit (19 files). The prompt also notes that the download caps are removed, and files are able to be saved in better quality than the stock low quality available if i pay them $19.
In order to find out if this "free" converter limited my downloads, I went to the website provided in the help window in the small text right above the big "Buy Now" advertisement. The website had no help files or forum whatsoever, rather a bunch of links to other "freeware" and a link to a completely amatuerish guestbook to sign. Therefore, I was never able to find out from Koyotesoft the solution to my problem, or even if the problem was caused by my not forking up $19 for this "freeware."
