    "THIS IS MALWARE"

    February 8, 2013  |   By Accipheran

Version: Free Convert M4A to MP3 AMR OGG AAC Converter 5.8

    Pros

obviously no pros this is MALWARE

    Cons

Everyone seems to be mentioning the fact that this thing won't convert more than 3 minutes worth of audio but only one other reviewer seems to have mentioned the fact that THIS IS MALWARE.
I tried to download this thing and it installed about 5 different programs on my computer including CouponCompanion, IMinent, InfoAtoms (and more). I tried to open chrome and it had changed all my settings, made it so bing! was my default search, made my home page some obnoxious advertising site etc. Same for IE9 and Firefox. I have no idea what else it did but am now in the process of finding out.
Very frustrated with CNET. Also very annoyed that in order to create this account to post this, I was forced to sign up for the newsletter.

    Summary

Absolutely absurd that CNET has malware available for download on its site.

    "Nearly Prefect"

    September 18, 2012  |   By bspbuco

Version: Free Convert M4A to MP3 AMR OGG AAC Converter 5.8

    Pros

Did exactly what I needed, and didn't do anything unexpected or non-obvious that I didn't need or want.

    Cons

No hidden agenda like switching out to some bogus search engine in such a devious way there was no getting around it.

    Summary

Free programs don't always work as expected - this one does just what is wanted, just the way I hoped.

    "Seriously undermines Cnet's credibility"

    June 28, 2011  |   By bflatminor

Version: Free Convert M4A to MP3 AMR OGG AAC Converter 5.8

    Pros

    None whatever

    Cons

A piece of crapware that has all the hallmarks of being malicious; avoid it like the plague.

    Summary

It's all been said in other reviews (apart from the mystery 5* one; how did that happen?).
However, with such a dire piece of software, how come it gets a 4* 'Editor's Review' from Cnet? Makes me think I've been ridiculously naive in the past, and trusted a site that's actually pretty worthless. I'll be much more cautious in future about downloading stuff from Cnet.

    "Doesn't convert M4A to AMR"

    June 19, 2011  |   By spectoral

Version: Free Convert M4A to MP3 AMR OGG AAC Converter 5.8

    Pros

    None whatsoever

    Cons

Despite clearly stating it in the title, this program does not convert M4A to AMR. Moreso, as others have said, it's not free at all, and when it does work, it does a **** job (low quality).

    Summary

This developer wasted his time and the time of everyone downloading it.

    "Only converts 3 minutes"

    May 23, 2011  |   By vincelin

Version: Free Convert M4A to MP3 AMR OGG AAC Converter 5.8

    Pros

    None. A waste of time.

    Cons

Cuts off conversion at 2:59. No mention of this in UI. Wasted my time.
Must pay for longer conversion. iTunes does this conversion for free.

    Summary

This is NOT freeware. You must pay to convert anything more than 3 minutes. Use iTunes. It converts m4a to mp3 for free.
