"Conflicts in newer versions"
Version: Fraps 3.4.7
Pros
Strong game footage recorder
Cons
Has some conflicts that cause certain games to lag even when you're NOT recording.
Unregistered version has a 30-second recording time limit. -
"Records your finest moments of gameplay!"
Version: Fraps 3.4.7
Pros
Records with very little affect on the game's video display. Plus it records all sound.
Cons
The trial version only records for 30 seconds at a time. In my opinion, the price of the full version is too high, unless you're a dedicated gamer who likes to record everything they ever play :-;
My Windows Media Player doesn't play sound on the Fraps recordings, but does when they're converted to WMV format (but that's probably WMP not having the right codecs).Summary
The best on-screen video recorder I've found so far. If you don't want to pay for the full version of Fraps, you can use the trial version of Fraps to record your favourite game, in a series of 30 second clips, then edit them all together as a kind of highlight video.

Version: Fraps 3.4.6
Pros
-A lot less laggish than hypercam
-Can record sound with out use of external microphoneCons
-it only records games and videos but it cannot record something like your desktop
- Even though it lags a lot less than hypercam it stilltakes away fps.Summary
Deffinently better than hypercam in terms of fps and I like how I can record audio without an external microphone(which also gives videos much better audio)

"Works like a charm."
Version: Fraps 3.4.6
Pros
- Constantly updated
- Easy to use
- Records practically every game you throw at it.
- Able to also record the Desktop on Windows 7 and Vista
- New version doesn't slow games down as much.Cons
- Very large file sizes when recording
Which will require a separate convertter /editor to change.
- File sizes only go up to 3.9GB before making a new file.Summary
Fraps is fantastic for what it does. With the right settings you an record any PC game you want. The only major downside is the large filze size of recordings, which will require a separate editor which can become a problem if you doing let's plays for YouTube.
Well worth getting though. -

"Fraps is good, it really is. However, it's bad."
Version: Fraps 3.4.2
Pros
Good stability when recording 30 FPS across all resolutions.
Cons
60 FPS, no matter the spec, causes audio sync issues gradually.
Summary
CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 @ 2.6 GHz
Additionally: Fraps video could not transcode via x264 / ffmpeg. It gives "out of memory" errors.
RAM: 8 GB DDR3 1066
HDD: 1 TB 7200 RPM ST-Model HDD
Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 470 PNY (miniHDMI)
Recorded a 30 FPS 1080p Video, 60 FPS 1080p Video, 60 FPS 720p Video and 30 FPS 720p Video.
As said above, fraps is an excellent program, providing you have an OEM Windows, unlike I do, and good specs, which apparently, even though I do have that, FRAPS thinks I don't, so it performs horribly. One thing I've noticed is that no matter what resolution you have FRAPS recording, if you use 60 FPS, lock it to the program, you WILL have audio sync issues gradually occur. Secondly, using 30 FPS will allow better Audio sync, no matter the resolution, even 1080p was flawless so far into a 5 minute video of Back to the Future: The Game. The problem is, while the video card can definitely handle 60 FPS on Linux, it can't, at all, handle the same FPS load on Windows, even if composition, aero, etc. is off in Windows.
Another problem is, is that FRAPS' FPS1 codec is NOT LOSSLESS. Why DO YOU NEED TO MAKE A FILE 4 GB AT 1080P WITH 30 FPS FOR ONLY A WORTHLESS TWO MINUTES. You have compression artifacts when playing a fraps video, why is it acting like a lossless codec?
Third: The price, I paid 37 USD for this, and I want at least 15 USD taken off that and given back to me for how horribly this software performed even though I had excellent specifications.
In closing, I would not recommend this software to anyone.

"Good Video capturing program with some bugs"
Version: Fraps 3.4
Pros
Captures high quality video
ability to choose what FPS to record in
Constant free updates
ability to (or choose not to) record Windows 7 sounds
Can record external Mic with push to talkCons
Expensive
buggy for some games
only can record about 1-2 minutes of high quality video in a file
4 gig file sizesSummary
FRAPS is a fairly good at capturing many video games including Minecraft, TF2, Killing Floor, Assassin's Creed etc., but with that said you'll definitely need a good gfx card and at least 200 gigs of harddrive space free if you want to record 50 minutes of high quality video. If you can't spare the harddrive space, then record in half-size with lower fps then. Also for some games, you can run into problems when recording while turning off/on the overlay, so make sure to hide it or disable it if you plan on recording instead of benchmarking in games such as L4D2.
If you want to try and make a "Let's play" series or something like that you'll also need a decent video editor to glue the files together, which surprisingly even Windows Movie Maker be used if needed, but not recommended.
Overall, this program is good, but has its faults. Fortunately, FRAPS is being updated every month or so and you can receive the latest version of it for absolutely free. In my opinion, it's worth the 37 bucks if used correctly and can provide for many entertaining replays.
