"Good program for general PDF reading/editing"

    March 25, 2014  |   By FunkyBrewster

    Version: Foxit Reader 6.1.4.0217

    Pros

Lots of features: text and image copying, highlighting, notes, append pages to existing PDFs, save form data, good PDF virtual printer built in.

    Cons

Some junkware might need to be unchecked in the installer. Automatic updates don't always work (you have to DL the new version and manually uninstall/install).

    Summary

I haven't had any issues with invasive malware. Since this program does everything I need in one package, while others don't, I'm sticking with it for now. I don't use the shell extensions and prefer not to view PDFs in browsers so I'm not sure about those features.

    "Not much better"

    March 11, 2014  |   By ozc2k

    Version: Foxit Reader 6.1.4.0217

    Pros

Not as bloated as Adobe Reader.

    Cons

It's trying to become Adobe reader.

    Summary

I first started using Foxit before they started skinning the interface to make it look like clown vomit. You can go into the preferences and change the look back but it's just another one of those steps that shouldn't be needed. Their more recent build has started creating folders in the root of the drive I open PDF's in. It has also began installing something along with it to support smartphones/tablets without my approval. Suffice to say I uninstalled it and I'll wait for it to be fixed or I'll find SOMETHING ELSE to take its place.

    "now contains adware"

    March 4, 2014  |   By hikergirl

    Version: Foxit Reader 6.1.4.0217

    Pros

Foxit used to be a phenomenal piece of pdf freeware. Today, I tried to update to the newest version and found that Foxit now requires that you have AVG and an AVG tool bar, neither of which I want.
I sent Foxit an email and asked if they had any other pdf software - perhaps I should have used the word 'freeware' (I'm not saying it has to be purchased). They promptly replied and gave a link to their site for Enterprise. I have not been able to find Enterprise on cnet's site, so I don't know anything about it. Does anyone have a recommendation for a pdf reader - not the MS product, which, for excellent reasons, I cannot use?

    Cons

The newest version of Foxit freeware contains adware: AVG and AVG tool bar.

    Summary

If you want AVG and AVG tool bar, and all things being equal, fine. But, I don't want adware.

    Updated on Mar 4, 2014

This is Foxit's review on Enterprise: Foxit Enterprise Reader is designed to meet the PDF viewing needs of enterprise and government organizations. It contains numerous PDF customization options making it an easy to deploy PDF Reader that meets organizations' business objectives, adherence to ISO 32000 standards, and PDF viewing requirements. Foxit Enterprise Reader is a small, lightning fast, and feature rich PDF viewer which allows you to open, view, sign, and print any PDF file. It provides a complete PDF creation solution, providing the power of PDF creation to every desktop, and comes equipped with comprehensive protection against security vulnerabilities. Available in English, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish.
I have registered, just don't yet know if it's free or purchase.

"Now comes with Search Protect Malware & Hijacker"

    February 25, 2014  |   By ice_rabbit

    Version: Foxit Reader 6.1.4.0217

    Pros

All pros are negated when it hijacks all your browsers with an add-on to use "search protect by conduit" and installs some other shady startup programs and links to a cloud service on top of it.

    Cons

Unbelievable. I was just prompted for a Foxit update. I do a custom install (not allowing certain features like word integration, in browser preview) and while it is installing, I can see it hijacks my browser homepage, then winpatrol starts alerting me with various new program alerts.

Time to drop Foxit like a stone, if I can't trust the software I use to read and edit PDF files with.

And now I have scrub my machine. Uninstalling Foxit probably won't clean the mess it just made, clean up other systems, tell other people to no longer use foxit ... what a crap move by foxit.

    Summary

Foxit can't be trusted any longer since they hooked up with the dark side.
