    "Newest version is poor"

    July 19, 2014  |   By dafolzey

    Version: Foxit Reader 6.2.1.0618

    Pros

    Requires little memory or storage.
    Attractive UI
    Integrates well with Internet Explorer
    Great PDF printing/creation capabilities

    Cons

The newest version uses a constant 12-13% of my rather powerful CPU, there is no reason for this.

    Summary

I haven't directly noticed any of the malware that other reviewers have listed, but a PDF reader using a constant 12-13% of my CPU is definitely indicative of malware, which is what got me suspicious initially. Its a shame, becuase Foxit used to be the best PDF reader out there. I generally try to avoid Adobe products because of their security history, but really they're the only other free choice, so I guess I'm going back to the red and white team.

"Foxit Reader should be removed ASAP"

    June 17, 2014  |   By eezee_cnet

    Version: Foxit Reader 6.2.0.0429

    Pros

    There are no pros, anymore.

    Cons

    1. Newest update comes with the OpenCandy malware. DO NOT INSTALL!!
    2. I checked the support forum today, and it's over-flooded with spam.

Looks like the dev's of Foxit gave up on their product and want to go out in a blaze of malware and spam. I got the message, Foxit will be removed from my systems and it will not be installed or recommended by me ever again.

    Summary

Looks like the dev's of Foxit gave up on their product and want to go out in a blaze of malware and spam. DO NOT INSTALL!!

    ""The best PDF Reader""

    June 3, 2014  |   By Barpa21

    Version: Foxit Reader 6.2.0.0429

    Pros

The software is very lightweight and for instance much faster than any other PDF reader software. Foxit Reader comes with a cool free PDF creation tool allowing you to convert any format into PDF. In my opinion, This makes the product more useful and definitely put it on top of other popular PDF Readers like Adobe Reader .
I mostly use Foxit reader to create, share and provide comments to PDF documents. This tool has worked so well for me that many people with whom I work with, have finished Downloading Foxit reader due to its great annotating capabilities.

    Cons

The user interface is not like Adobe but more likely to Microsoft Office. If you don't like Microsoft office UI, you won't like Foxit UI.

    Summary

I always recommend my friends and co-workers to use Foxit. Foxit Reader has become an important tool for me to the point that I use it at work all the time. Even, when I have to provide feedback to documents not in PDF, I prefer to convert them into PDF and do my comments from Foxit reader .

"Loved the old version, got malwared by the latest"

    June 1, 2014  |   By kmcchi

    Version: Foxit Reader 6.2.0.0429

    Pros

(BUT SEE CONS) I spend a lot of time reading academic pdfs, and Foxit reader has been my favorite for the variety of ways I can annotate things. Easy to use multiple highlight colors, easy to write notes and comments and change the fonts/sizes I use; also like how it uses tabs for multiple open files whereas Adobe clutters up my main taskbar with unique program windows when multiple pdfs are open.

    Cons

Just setting up a new computer yesterday, I downloaded and installed the latest Foxit from the Foxit website - and got a boatload of malware that took me hours to clean up. Now I'm afraid to try any other Foxit downloads. They need to acknowledge this and advertise a guaranteed malware-free version before I'll try it again.

"Same Great PDF reader/printer I've been using for years"

    May 17, 2014  |   By jmc452

    Version: Foxit Reader 6.2.0.0429

    Pros

More features than I'll probably ever learn to use, but nice knowing they are there if I need them.

    Cons

    None so far.

    Summary

Noted the junk it would have installed if not paying attention, but lately, everything I've downloaded from Download.com has had these so just pay attention! My criticism is with Download.com for allowing it.

"Good product once, now spoilt with adware/malware!"

    May 10, 2014  |   By Bravodex

    Version: Foxit Reader 6.2.0.0429

    Pros

Do not decide before you read the cons!

I have used Foxit reader for many years. It was the one which offered a wide variety of annotation capabilities for free at a time when Adobe offered only limited annotation capabilities for free. Compared to adobe, it was lighter and quicker as well. In all these years of use I have been extremely satisfied with it is performance. I did not switch back to adobe even when it offered all annotation capabilities for free. But now, foxit has forced me to switch back to adobe (see cons).

    Summary of Pros:
    - Small installation size (Unlike adobe's bloated one)
    - Loads of annotation functionality for free
    - Quicker than Adobe
    - Mobile versions also available

    Cons

    (1) Updates come bundled with adware/malware
    (2) Pathetic customer support: They don't lend you an ear but try to shut your mouth!

    Summary

In summary I quit Foxit only because of their malicious practices regarding adware/malware. I still miss its excellent functionality while I am using Adobe. Keep away from them till they apologize and change their practices regarding adware/malware, else you run the risk of ruining your computer, just like I did!

    More details:
    (1) Updates come bundled with adware/malware:
Recently, when Foxit notified me of an update, I clicked on the update button. Now, while doing so, foxit installed other software which included adware/malware (Mobogenie: Open Candy I presume!). These caused many issues on my PC even after uninstallation (crashes, hangs, inappropriate folders in C drive; I don't know what else I have to face!). A decent company would have asked for my permission before installing these crap on my PC!
    (2) Pathetic customer support!:
When I tried to bring this to their attention in Foxit Forums, I was surprised to find that site filled with spam messages. It didn't look like a forum of a decent company. I later figured out why! Legitimate complaints in the forum where diluted or pushed down by these spam messages so that someone has to really make an effort to see them! When somehow I managed to post on the forum regarding the issue, I got immediately blocked (please note that I never used any abusive language, as I've used their product for many years)! Now it is for you to decide what sort of a company it is which tries to block such true constructive criticism just because it is bad publicity!

    "Malware/Adware Ruining a Good Product"

    May 9, 2014  |   By lokihands9

    Version: Foxit Reader 6.2.0.0429

    Pros

It works faster and often better than Adobe Reader, plus has an increasingly useful set of functionality for reading, annotating, and printing PDF's.

    Cons

Adware in the installer! And not just the downloaded one, but during the UPDATES! Some of which is, apparently, nearly impossible to remove. I did not get bitten by this, but only just barely. They had an opt-out malware installer during the LAST screen of the installer, with the smallest checkbox I have ever seen (and I've developed many UI's). It was smaller than an 6pt font letter x. I kid you not. They could use trying to find this checkbox as a vision test for fighter pilots.

    Summary

If you are a technical expert, on the level that you can avoid installing malware and easily uninstall it manually if you slip up? By all means, strap on your safety goggles and virtual machine sandbox and go wild.

If you are an average or even above average computer user? Avoid this. It is bundling things in ways that very intentionally try to make you slip up and accidentally install malware and adware. I am no longer recommending this to anyone, and that includes you, dear readers.

    "Version 6.2 stinks"

    May 8, 2014  |   By Linda Tallstar

    Version: Foxit Reader 6.2.0.0429

    Pros

Used to be good, but not any longer

    Cons

Installs several instances of malware. Regardless of what is said about "OpenCandy", it hangs around even after you remove it. PDF-Xchange Viewer is much better. Even Nitro Viewer is preferred over the present version of Foxit.

    Summary

    Not worth the trouble
