"UPDATE:"
Version: FotoMagico 1.2
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
OK, there's a new update; v1.2.1. So far, this has been very stable, though I needed to reduce the number of Playlists in iTunes.
FotoMagico is more than just a slide show (those are a dime a dozen and some are free). Output is QuickTime. Two things stick out as excellent:
1) GUI. It's very easy to figure out how to set up zooms and pans in FM.
2) Moving Text. It's the best ever on a Mac application. Moving text just like on TV commercials and it's a breeze to set up.
If your Mac crashed, rename your Music folder to something else, then try FM. Some Macs with huge iTunes Playlists would cause a problem. New version on the way.
If you want professional look of static digital photos with full motion, look closely at FM.
Very nice. The programmer has responded quickly to tips, suggestions, and bugs. -
"Fails to play movie and locks up"
Version: FotoMagico 1.2

I just downloaded the demo, registered and opened the demo. Then hit Play. Wrong, it does nothing except makes a black screen. ESC does not work. Had to force quit.
I like the interface, what it seems like it should do. I could not believe that there was a problem with their software until I read about this from others in this forum.
Oh well, I submitted a request for support. We will see.
Using new G5 PowerMac with 4 Gigs memory. Lots of hard drive space. -
"Best program available â?? by far"
Version: FotoMagico 1.2
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I am very surprised by the recent comments about FotoMagico. I have been using the beta version for several weeks and the final release for two days and have had NO PROBLEMS and NO CRASHES. Further, I have been using it heavily and using its many new features extensively. I have put together three high quality presentations, two of which have large panoramas and use the new title features extensively. The previous version of iPhoto (V4) crashed more than is program does!
I strongly disagree with one reviewerâ??s comments about using iMovie. I used iMovie before FotoMagico came along and it SUCKS for presenting high quality still images. I think that it is a great tool for low-resolution movies (and I still use it for this), but for still images it is horrible! I would use iPhoto before I would use iMovie.
Finally, I have used most of the photograph slide show programs out there and I can say unequivocally, that FotoMagico is the best photographic slide show program available â?? by far! I will be the first to say that it needs more functionality added to it (like two audio tracks), but I think that it is a good solid start. I have and I will continue to recommend it to my photographic colleagues and anyone who is interested in putting together high-quality photographic presentations. -
"Far Too Expensive for Testing Beta Software"
Version: FotoMagico 1.2b5
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
To put the issue of FotoMagico's cost into further perspective, consider that GraphicConverter, a mature, time-tested piece of software that has received countless kudos over the years, is a powerful image processing programme that also includes slideshow features. Though its slideshow may not have all of FotoMagico's bells and whistles, it costs less than half as much ($35.00), is stable and peforms numerous graphics functions that extend far beyond mere slideshows. The issue, in short, is value for money, and FotoMagico--a piece of betaware that's obviously not ready for primetime--does not even come close to providing such value. Perhaps some users may be so desperate for a slideshow app. that they're wiling to throw away $79. But I think that most of us have better things to do with our limited software budgets than to pay for the "privilege" of being somebody's guinea pig. -
"Beautiful program with beautiful results"
Version: FotoMagico 1.2b3
Summary

I respectfully disagree with those who thought it was too expensive... I think $79 is more then fair given the features. I would like to see more transitions, and I found it nearly impossible to synchronize the images to the beat of the music. I don't know if the program recorded my marker cues incorrectly, or if there was a lag time to display the pictures - although I still couldn't get good syncronization even after I exported to Quicktime. However, being able to see the smooth transitions, pans and zooms in a high-resolution image is indeed a thing of beauty. Congratulations to the publisher for creating this very elegant, very intuitive software. -
"Correct me if I'm wrong..."
Version: FotoMagico 1.0.2
Summary

But doesn't this slideshow app do one thing sooo crucial that the others don't, and that is doesn't assume you're trying to burn the slideshow down to CD/DVD and THEREFORE does not squash the images down to a measely 70 dpi? for low resolution TV sets???? If I'm right, its worth every penny not to mention more control over the Ken Burns effect. Granted they need more whistles and bells when it comes to adding transitions and effects, but most importantly, keeping a high res image and the ability to place in a slideshow without compressing it down (iMovie for example) is a saving grace here. -
"FotoMagico....the slide show for the new millenium"
Version: FotoMagico 1.0.1
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I have just spent a week using the 1.01 version of FotoMagico, the slide show software...and while it has a few 1.0 issues, this is truly an incredible program for anyone working regularly with still images for slide shows presented on a computer, web or TV via DVD.
It provides great control of image duration & transition effects. Its interface on the transition effects is innovative and powerful allowing some unusual results that look great. These same interface controls allow easy zooming and cropping of vertical images which has always been problematic. It integrates very smoothly with iTunes and iPhoto and it overcomes iDVD's 99 slide limitation and allows better audio control as well. It is faster & easier to create special effects than iMovie. It seems to have a few issues with sound tracks (it can't use a purchased song directly from apple and there are not as many audio controls as iMovie) but they are seem to be actively fixing bugs and adding new features.
They have a fully functional demo (http://www.fotomagico.com/demo/) that I would recommend folks give a try as this moves photographic slide shows into fun & interesting territory. The tech support was superlative as I was learning the product and findings its few limitations & quirks.
While this software integrates well with all of the iSoftware from Apple there is nothing "amatuerish" about it other than its ease of use. It is a professional product that produces professional results. -
"Still too many crashes"
Version: FotoMagico 1.0
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I just gave FotoMagico a test drive using a demo license. Great product if it will be further developed and bugs removed. I got crashes when building a small slide show and even more when trying to export my test slideshow, Tried to export the demo slideshow as a PAL QuickTime movie (I like to import the QuickTime movie into Final Cut to join with some video material) and it finished without a crash, but only the sound got exported. Maybe I did something wrong.
Anyway, I think that at this stage 79 bucks is way too much. If the app is more stable and bugs fixed it will be an impressive product. -
"Too Much $$"
Version: FotoMagico 0.5 [Preview 2]

I've been a user of Photo to Movie for a long time and think it is far more useful than this program. I think $69 is way too much to ask.
