"Not a trial, it is Save-Disabled Crippleware"

    September 13, 2010  |   By robogun

    Version: FontCreator 6.1

    Pros

Looks like it might be able to do the job, but unable to evaluate since fonts cannot be saved.

    Cons

This is not trial software or shareware, it is crippleware.

    Summary

Nice interface and lots of features, but unless final output (such as a "font") can be saved, installed and printed, it is impossible to tell if this software actually outputs useful fonts.

PC Paint has better options then this program.

    Summary

    "Individualize your writing!"

    February 6, 2010  |   By DaveCrosby

    Version: FontCreator 6.0.1

    Pros

Easy to learn, easy to use!
Draw each glyph with care and place it in a separate pdf. This newest version will aat the click of a button paste them all in the proper glyph boxes (if you follow the instructions) and viola, you have a fancy font!

    Cons

Life has too many other requirements to allow playing with this program all the time.

    Summary

Anytime you get the bug to change a font or make an unusual character, Zip Zap, it's done!

    "FontCreator Just Got Better"

    February 3, 2010  |   By Bhikkhu Pesala

    Version: FontCreator 6.0.1

    Pros

The latest version, FontCreator 6, added vector import from AI and PDF. If you like to use any vector drawing program to draw your fonts, produce a PDF for each character. FontCreator will now import them much faster and more accurately then before.

    Cons

Although FontCreator can open and edit OpenType fonts (OTF), it cannot yet add OpenType features. Free, third-party programs like OpenType Compiler or VOLT can be used for this. Character hinting is also not yet supported.

    Summary

I have used FontCreator since version 4.0 to produce large fonts with many accented characters for Pali and Sanskrit. I include full sets of symbols and dingbats to make my fonts more versatile.

The Professional Edition has many powerful features for automating font production. Adding and aligning accents, which used to take many hours can now be accomplished in minutes.

Creating a font of a different weight, an italic (oblique) or outline style from a regular type style is also automated, greatly reducing the time required to make a full set of type styles. Small Capitals, Oldstyle Figures, or Ligatures can be added to the Private Use Area with a Transform script too. Transform scripts can be customised or created.

Ease of use is one of FontCreator's strongest points. The toolbars are customisable and can be arranged to suit your monitor and working practices. Bookmarks, font searching, and sorting all make working with large fonts much easier. Versatile copy and paste operations with paste special to copy metrics or mappings as well as glyph contours, avoids duplicating work and promotes consistent design.

"Font Creator is an Excellent Product"

    February 3, 2010  |   By DickPape

    Version: FontCreator 6.0.1

    Pros

Font Creator has a very intuitive and solid UI for building fonts. You can become an expert font maker using this program. There are extra features which simplify designing new fonts. Every upgrade release has been super stable.

    Cons

While creating open type TTF fonts, it does not handle the OTF variety.

    Summary

Font Creator can be used to design new fonts. It can be used to correct fonts that don't work. I can now create new fonts in less than 2 hours using the Font Creator software.

Font Creator can be used by novices or experts.

"Excellent way of creating fonts, does everything for you"

    May 9, 2009  |   By cybernaut_ev

    Version: FontCreator 5.6

    Pros

Does exactly what you want in a very simple way once you're up to speed.

    Cons

Characters somewhere beyond the lowercase alphabet are not in numeric order and the program doesn't tell you what the character code number is. Those characters get overwritten with other characters (something to do with pasting one char on another?)

    "Powerful but Easy to Use"

    October 31, 2008  |   By Bhikkhu Pesala

    Version: FontCreator 5.6

    Pros

FontCreator is a professional tool that enables home users to enter the world of font design without too steep a learning curve. Draw your own glyphs directly or scan them and trace them to convert the bitamps to Truetype quadratic bezier curves.

    Cons

Currently lacks support for font hinting, Postscript Type One fonts, and OpenType glyph substitutions.

    Summary

The Home Edition has everything the home user will need to produce home-made fonts with a minimum of difficulty. All of the power of the Professional Edition is there, only with less automation. The 30-day Trial Edition is the fully functional Professional Edition, so you can get a good look at the additional features before deciding which version is right for you.

The Professional Edition has powerful scripts for adding entire extended character sets for accented composite characters like á ê ï õ ? in minutes. Regular fonts can be transformed to bold, italic, light, or outline. Small Capitals, ligatures, Old Style Figures, etc., can also be generated from scripts, taking much of the donkey work out of generating fonts with many glyphs.

Autokerning and Autonaming wizards automate the creation of kerning pairs and ensure that the required font name fields are filled in as they should be.

The interface is customisable, and many shortcuts facilitate working with large fonts. Guidelines and grids, font metrics lines, glyph captions, default zoom, etc., can all be customised to suit the way you like to work.

The free support forum at High-Logic with direct feedback from the Program's author provides a quick and helpful response when you need help with the program's many advanced features. Any bugs found are fixed promptly, sometimes within hours of being reported, and usually with a matter of days rather than months or years as is the case with most other software.

The Font Test window, Preview Toolbar, Comparison Toolbar, and Glyph Validation wizard, all help to ensure that any errors are spotted and removed before you start distributing your fonts.

Make no mistake, creating Truetype fonts is not a task for the lazy or impatient, but FontCreator makes the learning process as enjoyable and as easy as possible. It is a program that can be mastered by anyone with basic computer skills learnt from Graphics or DTP applications.

    "Amazing"

    September 20, 2007  |   By Liesbet Groenhoven

    Version: FontCreator 5.6

    Pros

When I found FontCreator on the Internet I was astonished how this editor

works. In a glance I understood how to get on with the tools. It only took

few seconds to transform my typefaces into italics with the Glyph

Transformer and it even adjusted the number of degrees! FontCreator is

exactly the editor I was looking for. A fantastic editor which I can

    recommend to anyone!
