"Easy, Versatile, and Powerful (You won't regret it)"
Version: FontCreator 9
Allows you to import your tiff's, emf's, wmf's, jpg's, gif's, eps', etc... (best way in my opinion); or you can draw right into the program. I've scanned 150 year old fonts into my computer (as jpg), traced the characters in a draw program, exported to gif, and brought a dead font in the past back to life. You can keep it simple with defaults and get your font running quickly, or dig into the depths of kerning, ligatures, and tables to fashion a complex font. If you are a beginner and aren't sure, you won't be left high and dry. The support is great. The forums are continually active, problems and questions addressed, examples abundant, and samples a plenty.
If you need to produce your own fonts, you won't find a better deal anywhere.
Haven't found any yet. Has accomplished all I needed to go from scratch to complete sets of fully kerned, professional looking fonts.
Complaints about "crippleware" are irrelevant and counter productive. If you "don't know" whether it will produce a good final product, then you "don't know" enough to write a review. Reviewing version 9 requires a license to actually use the program. Listen to the reviews of people who actually have a licensed version, otherwise you'll get confused by off-issue remarks. A word to the wise - there is a world of difference between version 5 and version 9. If you need a font creation program, buy v9. Anyone who tells you to settle for version 5 obviously hasn't become acquainted with v9.
Whether a beginner or experienced, I believe you will be surprised at the power of such an inexpensive product. I started with version four many years ago, and when I upgraded to v8 last year I kept saying "wow" as I used it. I couldn't believe what I had been missing and how powerful it had become. I've now moved from v8 to v9.
