    "quality, promising app"

    July 9, 2003  |   By garbanzito-real

    Version: FontAgent Pro 1.3.1

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
i've tested all three major font managers, and would rank FontAgent Pro somewhat higher than Suitcase due to: better interface, font verification built in, good activation, and frequency of improvements (they had the first XPress 6 plug-in)

Suitcase has an edge on speed and reporting features, though i haven't found FA Pro especially slow except for saving the database, which can be done in the background.. others have reported more problems with Suitcase bugs than i saw in my period of testing

Font Reserve has a lousy interface, is full of bugs, has not been updated recently, and is now owned by Extensis -- worth watching for future developments, but not using at present unless you need Font Reserve Server

"Slow on my dual 867 G4"

    Version: FontAgent Pro 1.3

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Start up time is quicker than older version I tested long ago BUT in my latest test with this new version FAP stlll took a hideously long 30+ seconds to start up after logging in with less than 10 fonts set for auto activation. By the time FAP finished its start up many of my other apps that needed the benefits of auto font activation had already finished launching. So, for instance, my FileMaker database that was auto-launched neeed to be closed and reopened again to have the necessary fonts auto-activated by FAP. FAP is sluggish compared to Font Reserve. I prefer FAP's clean interface to the disasterous interface of Font Reserve but unless FAP can activate my fonts as quickly as Font Reserve I'm not compelled to buy. NO SALE.

...are noticeable on my G4/500. The app launched in just over 1 bounce (compared to several before) and activation seems to be snappier. This app keeps getting better and better.

    "Philosophy?"

    Version: FontAgent Pro 1.3

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Personally I like Font agent pro it just works differently to other programs, once you get used to the philosophy it's great. Version 1.3 is faster firing up and shutting down (especially) and it does everything I ask of it (mind you- I don't bother with Quark). Unlike jkb4 I feel it organised my chaotic font collection- different strokes perhaps. Yellowdog- your comments are about Suitcase not Font Agent Pro what relevance?.

    "CRASH, CRASH, CRASHâ?¦"

    May 19, 2003  |   By VersionTrackerUserOpinion

    Version: FontAgent Pro 1.2.1

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Since ATM "left the building" I was looking for a stable and powerful font-management utility for my over 9000 fonts.
From yesterday on I was trying to get FA to work but from 4500 fonts upwards it didn't save anymore (kept freezing) and sometimes it even did NOT show up the importet Font-set. For instance, it took nearly 3 hours to import 4300 fonts and when all dialogs went away, there was nothing to be seen!! During the importing it eats 100% of my 1Ghz RAMâ?¦
I could continue with the ugly interface etc. etc. but spent enough time on that C.R.A.P.
If you need a working font-utility, stay away from that application!!
