    "so frustrating"

    August 18, 2006  |   By cliff73

    Version: Folder Lock 5.6

    Pros

    worked well once...

    Cons

When I first started using this product it seemed to work well, out of three levels of security I would choose medium simply because the highest level is a bit slow in finishing. Then the program neatly hides itself if the option box is checked and can only be found via the specified hot keys. However, recently I started having trouble with the program, for some reason it would no longer perform any but the lowest level of data securing which was evident from the reduced processing time, now it would only lock without scrambling or encrypting, which is not very secure at all. Also it would no longer hide like it's supposed to but remains visible in the browser window from where it can also be accessed. Further more , when i tried customer support my first e-mails were stopped as spam and the latest have been stopped because their mailbox is evidently full! And this from a company that boasts superfast respons times. No amount of reinstallations help and all newer versions act the same. I used to love the product but now i hate it.

"The best product on the market !"

    August 15, 2006  |   By fat_ehi_2001

    Version: Folder Lock 5.6

    Pros

The interface is very attractive and easy to use. It has three locking options, which are fantastic and offer different levels of protection and the speed of locking differs with the amount of data and type of locking options chosen. It offers the best portable encryption software ever created (for customer use). I have purchsed the full version and I can encrypt large amounts of data in my memory stick and use it on any computer without having to install the program. It is fast, reliable and easy to use. It has a 256-bit BLOWFISH strong encryption key, which is rarely sold this cheaply as it offers very reliable encryption. You would be crazy not to try it. Forget what those people say about it. I have personally tried it and loved and now I have purchased it and it's just greate.

    Cons

Encrypting large amounts of data takes a while to both encrypt and decrypt but this is understandable, because it is only natural as we are talking about encrypting large amounts of data using a strong encryption key.

"Does not work right and Zero customer service"

    August 11, 2006  |   By 1johnu

    Version: Folder Lock 5.6

    Pros

    From just using shareware version--Nothing

    Cons

After not using it for a while and forgetting unlock code, the program locked up the computer displaying blue screen stating until I enter correct code computer is locked. This is now a serious problem! Shut power off & computer appears usable again (program doesn't work right if just turning off power allows it to then operate). I now can't delete this program until I have a valid unlock code. Order center is only phone number given anywhere. New Softwares says they have "24 hour a day, seven days a week" trade-marked customer service. They have no phone number and after more than 48 hours I still do not have a reply from them. They allow you to email them 24 hours a day--that's what the World Wide Web gives everyone the opportunity to do yet that is what they claim to offer someone as "24 hour a day" customer service. It is among the worst I have encountered. Look at other negative comments with regard to how the program operates and about their alleged "customer service" and it can be seen what you are going to get with Folder Lock. I wish I did more before trying it. As with another poster, I too would give it a -1 star rating.

    "The locker doesnt lock anything."

    August 5, 2006  |   By raminder

    Version: Folder Lock 5.6

    Cons

I locked several files in the locker, and reopened them by going thru my computer and program files. There are several other free sofwares available and are easy to use and work. I cant belive they want us to pay for this, Maybe they want us to lock our wallets in their locker and send it to them.

"Version 5.6 is still broken, easy access to your hidden files."

    August 3, 2006  |   By CassidyS

    Version: Folder Lock 5.6

    Pros

    The program sports nice colors.

    Cons

Version 5.6 is almost as broken as version 5.56 and both versions STILL allow easy unauthorized access to your supposedly hidden, locked and encrypted files on an external USB device. [Here's how to test for the problem]:

1)Install Folder Lock normally onto your computer and using the Folder Lock "browse" interface, install the program again onto a USB device.(this is the approved way to get Folder lock onto a USB device)

2)Start Folder Lock "from" the USB device. (this is the normal way to run Folder Lock from a USB device) and put something into the "Locker" folder and lock it or encrypt it.

3)Remove USB device as you normally would and Plug USB device into a computer that "does not" have Folder Lock installed.

4)Using Windows explorer you will not see the locked folder containing your files BUT...Use a file manager (like Total Commander or any other file manager) to view the USB device and, Lo and Behold, your "supposedly hidden/encrypted" files are easily viewed and accessable for copying/editing/whatever.

    What does this mean?

It means: Anyone who finds your USB device can easily view/copy/edit all your supposedly hidden/encrypted files just as easy as using the mouse AND they don't need the password.

(Since version 5.56, the programmer did partially address this issue, but failed to actually test his work.)

If anyone doesn't agree, simply follow the steps above and become a believer.

(Unfortunately, I paid for this program some time back and probably won't be allowed a refund).

    Buyer beware.

    "Terrible"

    August 3, 2006  |   By The_Computer_Man

    Version: Folder Lock 5.6

    Pros

    Nothing

    Cons

Overprice, crappy security, short passwords, and did I mention OVERPRICED. This is a $35 pretty interface with no encryption options, and are we supposed to assume the simply hiding a folder makes it secure?!?! The only thing this is could for is the casual snooper. Anyone with a few minutes and more then half a brain you find you stuff. Go and get a REAL encryption program. Who cares if people can see you files, what you want is for people to not be able to access them. I would give this a -1 if I could!
