"Does not work with Vista Home Premium / Firefox / Flash"

    July 19, 2010  |   By Adam.H

    Pros

It's a small download and quick install

    Cons

It doesn't mute flash on my system: Windows Vista Home Premium / Firefox 3.6.6 / Flash 10.1

    Summary

The program needs an update, I used to have it on my old XP system and it worked fine but sadly not any more....

At the present time (July 2010) the FlashMute Addon for Firefox does not work with the current Issue of Firefox/Flash

The only option I can find to mute flash in FF is the hack of adding a blank text file in to the Firefox program folder (normally C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox) and re-naming it to 'msacm32.dll' but this mutes ALL flash (including YouTube etc.) and you need to re-name or delete the file and re-start Firefox each time you want to un-mute.

Really Adobe needs to address this and add a universal Mute function to Flash

    Update!

One other thing you can do which does not require re-starting Firefox and is much simpler:
    In Vista:
Right click the speaker icon in the system tray and select 'Open Volume Mixer' click the mute button under 'Firefox Plugin Container"

    :-)
