Editors' Review

This ultrasimple application controls the sound of Flash movies you watch on the Internet, though it lacks a useful help file.

FlashMute sits idle in your system tray, where you can easily access it. From its tray icon, you can single-click it to mute or unmute the sound of Flash movies. Also, right-clicking the tray icon brings up a pop-up menu that contains a few options to enable the hot-key function and mute the sound in your browser. In our tests, muting the sound with a click or via the hot-key combination worked immediately. However, the program lacks a help file and we had to go to the publisher's Web site just to identify the proper hot keys.

Overall, the program worked well and any user needing to immediately mute the volume of Flash movies will appreciate this easy-to-use freeware.

Developer's Description

Control your Flash movie sound.
FlashMute is a tool which allows you to mute/unmute Flash movies viewed in Web browsers. The muting will not affect any other programs, so music played from your favorite music player will continue as normal. You can optionally configure FlashMute to also block other sounds from a browser, for instance embedded wave or midi files. The program is light weight and easy to use, and can be controlled either by use of a tray icon or a hotkey. Version 2.06 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.
