    "Does not work."

    April 19, 2009  |   By Web-Eagle

    Version: FlashCatch 1.0.1.1

    Pros

    Not Applicable

    Cons

WIndow not expandable. Drag and drop not available. Requires second program to convert for most players. No explaination for error messages. Does not uninstall cleanly.

    Summary

    Does not work.

Also, be warned that it will put a new button on your browser. That's how it works, and actually that part didn't seem like such a bad idea.

But after you "capture" the file you still need a converter. They conveniently point you to FLVideoConverter, another "free" program which purports to convert from flv to avi, mp3, or mp4. Only it doesn't.

After opening the program, navigating to the file (no drag and drop here), adding it to a queue, and selecting the output type, it comes back with "Errors" and no explaination whatsoever.

If you click "help" you get a browser window pointed to their FAQ page, which has exactly 5 questions, one of which is about errors.

They tell you if Media Player won't run it, the conversion probably won't work. Then you are told to get a codex for non-standard formats.

It was DOWNLOADED in THEIR format!!!

I uninstalled this one (BOTH of these, actually), and even then it wasn't a clean uninstall, with files needing to be removed manually. But those files are LOCKED and cannot be removed. I'll eventually figure out how to get rid of them, but for now, Level 9 Technologies is on my carp list.

Fortunately, the only thing it cost me was my time, which is still worth more than this.

    "Don't bother"

    April 19, 2009  |   By debiannj

    Version: FlashCatch 1.0.1.1

    Pros

It is easy to get to to download the video. Support does answer email in an average time.

    Cons

The free version will only download video files smaller than an average youtube music video. Support's only response was upgrade, or download something smaller.

    Summary

Unfortunately, the limitations of the free version make it difficult to impossible to give an accurate review of the product. I would have purchased this if I had been able to test this on the file size I would be downloading, but I only got messages to upgrade, and support's only response was to download something smaller or upgrade to pro at $19.99.

    Updated on Apr 19, 2009

Was able to get a video downloaded - would not convert without flvconverter software - theirs - and it wouldn't convert the flv because windows media player wouldn't play it. I'm deleting the whole mess off my computer. Buyer beware.
