Publisher's description of FixWindowsUpdate
BITS-service is an essential part of Windows Update process. If BITS stops working you are not able to update your Windows anymore automatically or from Windows Update-Web site. This often occurs when you uninstall certain antivirus/Internet security programs. BITS-service simply stops running and cannot be started again. That's where this program comes in. It is a collection of fixes for this problem and running this program usually solves the problem and your updates work ok again. Notice: This program does not enable the Windows Update when the cause of the malfunction is using a pirated version of Windows XP. This program fixes a known problem with legal Windows XP-systems.

- Version reviewed: FixWindowsUpdate 1
This freeware repairs a broken Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS), but doesn't explain how. FixWindowsUpdate's bare-bones, four-button interface is geared toward novices, but doesn't give advanced users enough information. Reading the short help file is a requirement with this program. The four labeled buttons give little clue as to their use. One button merely opens the service window, and the user must check if BITS is running. If it is, this application's need is over.
However, if you can't find it listed, then FixWindowsUpdate 1 offers three methods to enable BITS. One button attempts to start it. That's the easy procedure. Failing that, this utility offers two final attempts, labeled Phase One and Phase Two. However, the application doesn't explain what those functions attempt to change on your system. Plus, there is no undo or backup function. This is truly a use-at-your-own-risk program. Nevertheless, advanced users who know they have a need to repair BITS should give this freeware a chance.

Version: FixWindowsUpdate 1
"Horrible, it claims to already be running when run for the 1st time"
Pros: It was very easy to uninstall
Cons: I was unable to do anything as it claims that it is already running. So it really does nothing.

Version: FixWindowsUpdate 1
"A useful program if you need it"
Pros: The author of this program is J.Pajula, it works also normally in Vista, it does not use much space, good help file information, There's 4 buttons that are useful.
Cons: Well, the help file does not work in Vista, I think it should be html if so. Not so many people actually need it
