"A wonderful little app but rough at the edges."
Version: Finetunes 1.2
Pros
If you need to manipulate the way you listen to your music such as changing speed and pitch, repeating and scanning sections etc., then iTunes can be a pain. With Finetunes this is all simple.
Cons
Overall quality is not good and there are lots of little quirks which are annoying.
Summary
This little app is a gem for those placing high demands on the way they listen to their music and who appreciate simplicity. If your music library has a simple structure, you can even do away with iTunes completely provided you're not synchronising iPods, ripping and buying online. Finetunes has become my default mp3 player.
But there are lots of little quirks such as the start/stop button remaining at 'stop' at the end of a file and then causing replaying from the beginning when clicked; a file opened with Finetunes doesn't start playing automatically; files in a playlist do not get played automatically in sequence; the 'time played' and 'time remaining' fields are at the ends of the time slider (in iTunes fashion) rather than on top, taking valuable room away from the time slider; browsing is primitive and little use is made of context menues - all things which would not involve much additional development effort. And the help file is so un-helpful it's not funny. This is all not good in software that costs $20.
Although the current version is two years old, the product is obviously not mature yet. I'm looking forward to a Version 1.3. Please!
