"I tried the other free firewalls - this is the best!"
Version: Filseclab Personal Firewall Professional Edition 3.0.0.16
Pros
Easy to set up and use. I've been using it for two years and I haven't had any problems at all. It automatically updates itself, so once it's configured for your existing programs, you kind of just forget about it. Nice interface too.
Cons
Can't think of any except the name "Filseclab" is kinda weird lol.
Summary
I like this product because it's free, it has no annoying splash or nag screens, it just works in the background quietly doing it's job. There are three security levels-High, Medium and Low. I have always used Medium with no problems. It recognizes trusted websites like Microsoft automatically. It has tabs like Status, Monitor, Log, Rules and Settings if you get curious as to which applications are doing what online. You can enable or disable any application's internet access quickly under the Rules tab, and it's built-in rules automatically block worm and virus attacks. Much better than the other free firewalls I tried, although that was two years ago and they may have improves since then. I see no reason for me to try anything else because I don't know how it could be improved upon.

"Excellent! Everything is visible and controllable"
Version: Filseclab Personal Firewall Professional Edition 3.0.0.16
Pros
It has a traffic monitor (pass/deny), a rules editor (auto + user), a status report (bandwidth), user settings. It warns on every attack or denied attempt. Much more. Real hands on stuff without spinning your head. Check it out.
Cons
There are some technical things I do not understand, but that will take too much time. Then again, that's no train smash, the thing works!!!!
Summary
This app works!! Also I don't need Merlin looking over my shoulder.
This app works. Highest accolade you'll get from me. The xpacketsys module by iolo.com caused BSOD crashes. Requested removal of this - core - element in the wall. Christina replied to the effect that immediate repairs will be effected, but no removal. Re-installed and since no ill-effects. Top score for customer care. Well done.

Updated on Mar 23, 2012This is the best firewall I've seen so far. It is flexible and allows your own rules to be written. It does firewalling and leaves you in control. Reports well, logs well. Clear and controllable.
However; (Fuji-Siemens Scaleo D2190A) on XP I had repeated BSOD crashes with xpacket.sys reported as the culprit. This was apparently written by iolo.com, serving as the core for Filsec. Requests to have this repaired or removed were declined for that reason.
On my new Win 7 Acer AS5349 laptop compatibility issues were reported during installation which then aborted. I did not repeat that exercise for fear of damaging the new machine. You can buy the source code but I assume you will have no access to the core coding, so that becomes an useless exercise.
Just wish they'd repair it.
Zone Alarm over reports and takes control of the machine as does Wyvern. Comodo also takes control, while several others stop your work entirely until you attend the firewall thingy. -
"This is what it's all about folks!"

Cons
none really.

"excellent"
Version: Filseclab Personal Firewall Professional Edition 3.0.0.16
Pros
low on resource usage (incredibley low) and seems to be working well, remembers rules unlike some firewalls that keep asking for the same rights over and over. Free too.

"Not bad, but not great"
Version: Filseclab Personal Firewall Professional Edition 3.0.0.16
Pros
It's free. Well, there's more than that. It seems to be fairly secure, and was easy to install and uninstall with default settings.
Cons
Navigating the user interface was not intuitive. Customizing settings was difficult and rather clumsy if you want to go into advanced use and do more than just have a firewall. Also, if you need to set up an Apache webserver on your computer, you need to get rid of this firewall. They don't like each other, even when the firewall is turned off.

"Just Love It!"
Version: Filseclab Personal Firewall Professional Edition 3.0.0.16
Pros
I downloaded this firewall because I wanted to find something that would allow ICS to work and still be effective. I tried ZoneAlarm and could not get the firewall to work with ICS but this one does a great job. I tested the firewall using the online test at hackerwatch.org and it found no open ports. Also it uses less system resources than ZoneAlarm and shows graphically how much traffic goes through the network. A great personal firewall!
Cons
The only complaint that I have (really minor) is that it downloads in a zip archive instead of an exe file. Not a problem for me, but might be for someone with Windows ME or older. Still well worth the download!
