"Does extactly what it is supposed to do"
Version: Files Compare Tool 2.7
Pros
Great free program, no bugs or problems and very easy to use. Two screen split showing each file and thankfully the file name and path so you can remember which is which. Highlight the lines that are different yellow and then the actual text differences in orange.
Cons
Would like to see line numbering just to make things a little easier.

"Just wanted to compare 2 txt files and it wouldn't"
Version: Files Compare Tool 2.7
Pros
This product might be useful if it worked but I couldn't get it to.
Cons
All I wanted to do was compare 2 .txt files. From the user interface it is not obvious how to do this. In the end, I created separate directories and put the files in these directories. Then I renamed the files to the same name within each directory. Then I selected these directories from the compare program. I ran the compare and it said the .txt files were binary and wouldn't show me what was different. I gave up. Save your time and find something more usable.

"Simple and effective"
Version: Files Compare Tool 2.7
Pros
I write, thus needed a simple text file compare to match my file against my editor's file. Files Compare Tool is simple and effective with this task.
Cons
Given FCT is freeware the lack of polish is not really a problem, but some visual polishing would make it more plesant to use.

"Utterly useless for comparing text files"
Version: Files Compare Tool 2.7
Pros
It LOOK nice when I launched it. Maybe it's good for comparing directories. I only tried it for comparing text files.
Cons
Truly, amazingly bone-headed design. Let's say you're comparing two text files, each with paragraphs of maybe 500 characters each (6 or 7 lines). In the program's workspace, each paragraph appears as one long line that scrolls off into the horizon. No word wrap. Worse, asking the program where the next difference is takes you only to the LINE not the SPOT where the difference is. So now you have to scroll horizontally, through hundreds of characters, using your eyes to find the discrepancy. For text files, that's useless.
