    "Very useful little utility."

    May 25, 2011  |   By PThrumpit

    Version: FileNote 1.1

    Pros

    Does what I wanted.

    Cons

Few, but would like a few improvements.

    Summary

I'm only entering this because I think Cnet's review is a bit harsh. This does exactly what it says it does. Yes, we can do it ourselves, but this does away with the intermediate steps. It has been around for a long time, and I've used it on and off for many years. However, I would like to see the peeps at Moon modify it a bit.
The notes themselves add to the list of files, and can cause clutter, so I would like to see all notes placed in a single, devoted directory. To this end the right-click menu would have Create Filenote, and View Filenote instead of the one. Create does what it does now, only saves into the dedicated folder, and View Filenote would quickly search the dedicated directory. If a note exists, it displays it, if not, it - not sure, what you think - just opens Notepad and we assume no note exists, or opens a windows saying so?
    Anyway, just adding my tuppenceworth.

"Simple right click on the file pops open a txt document"

    November 30, 2010  |   By dream1up

    Version: FileNote 1.1

    Pros

It saves the review to the folder and names it the same as the file name all automatically!

    Cons

Really no cons but it might be nice for future app to select which editor to use and other admin options.

    Summary

I love this little app, I use it everyday. Whenever you download an app from CNet, right click the file, copy and paste the review from the website and ctrl+s does the rest. I also use this in my pictures folder when I want to give a little more detail or description to a photo so I remember it later. Again, right click the photo, select 'FileNote...' and a text document pops open that has the same name as the photo I selected and 'Ctrl+s' automatically saves the document to the same folder as the photo. Awesome App! :)

    "CNET Reviewer unrealistic...very useful tool"

    May 14, 2010  |   By simon_cnet

    Version: FileNote 1.1

    Pros

This is an exceptionally useful context menu tool for speedy creation of file notes.

    Cons

    Nothing really.

    Summary

This is an exceptionally useful context menu tool. I use it regularly. Instead of renaming files that you download you can instantly create a text file with the same name and add all the info you like about the program/software. I also use it for notes about specific images (photos) I take with my camera...and other uses as well, for accompanying documents sent to others. Definitely saves a lot of clicking.

Contrary to no one seeing the 'allure' it is very useful, and of course free.

    "ALWAYS READY TO GO"

    April 5, 2008  |   By khamma

    Version: FileNote 1.1

    Pros

I have always opened Notepad to make a note about anything I downloaded because the setup names are often cryptic and I seldom install them right away. Then when I'm ready to install, I can easily determine which setup file is for which application. FileNote makes this a quick simple process since I no longer have to search for Notepad. Before I found FileNote, I often wanted to make notes about other files on my system so I could save myself the trouble of loading a whole program to see what it was or if it was the version I was looking for, but it was too much trouble to do so. Now it is just a quick simple task so I am saving myself loads of time.

    Cons

There are no cons if you have a reason to use it.

"Limited use, but really handy for some things"

    December 8, 2007  |   By hightails

    Version: FileNote 1.1

    Pros

I have used this for years to label downloaded files that have unhelpful filenames. It can be hard to remember what bf1760.exe or setup.exe is when you're tidying up your downloads file.

Just right click the file and in the NotePad window that opens enter the application name, version, and anything else you want to record. Then save this text file with the downloaded file.

I haven't found any other uses for this, but for me it serves this one purpose brilliantly.

    Cons

    Nothing
