It's no secret we're big fans of backups. Frequent and thorough, data and system, partial and full; we just can't get enough of them (is that possible?) but our enthusiasm is based on hard-won experience. NCH's FileFort Backup Software is a free backup utility that creates full and incremental backups. It doesn't create a system image, so it's not a substitute for a full backup solution that can completely restore your system to a new disk, if necessary. It protects your critical data from damage or loss on a regularly scheduled basis, quickly and easily. Unlike some other freeware data backup tools we've seen, FileFort can back up data to a variety of locations, including USB drives and CD/DVDs.
FileFort's user interface is commendably simple but attractive and up to date in style and layout. The program opened with a backup wizard that quickly led us through the process of setting up and running our first backup. FileFort can back up files to a variety of locations, including external drives, a networked PC, a remote server via FTP, and optical disks via Express Burn. We had to use the network option to select an internal hard drive we use for dedicated regular backups, but that was no problem. FileFort's backup options include not only full and incremental backups but also self-extracting backups and an encryption option that uses MEO Encryption. We could also schedule regular backups. We checked the box labeled Run This Backup Immediately. FileFort tracked the job with a green progress bar. Our job completed quickly. FileFort can save backups as BKF or ZIP files. To access our backed up data, we needed to extract it back to our disk, but that's not a problem if the data-in-question is corrupted or lost, except for FileFort's backup.
While FileFort worked well in Windows 7 and Vista, it can only create ZIP files in Vista because it requires ntbackup to create BKF files, and it won't run in Vista without hacks. Nevertheless, FileFort proved a simple, capable data backup solution that can back up your important data to a wide range of locations.

"Good for scheduled backups"

Pros
Easy to set up and run.
Cons
If you don't use it scheduled, it doesn't keep your list of jobs for use another time, you have to start over. Won't backup files over 2GB, you need to split into 2 or more jobs, but when you create a new job you lose details of first one.
Summary
Overall, rather unsatisfactory for me. Backup files are zipped but you can't open them & look at them, it will only restore them back to your hard drive, still zipped. If only it kept your jobs for future use I might have given it 4 stars.

"The software is great"

Pros
It ids exactly what I have been looking for since you can backup to CD and DVD's ! And it will automatically backup files for me and it is free! So far it has been a great program it even launches extracting files from compressed files! It has a file manager that you can see all of the directories on the left which makes it real handy for backing up files and data!
