"This is by far the best renamer I ever found."
Version: File and MP3 Renamer 2006 5.25
Pros
Clear, concise, easy to manage.
Wide range of options when renaming.
E-x-t-r-e-m-e-l-y helpful to remove unwanted [YOUTUBE] part of file names.Cons
Does not offer the option of sticking the initial position for search and rename. E.g.: Unable to search and rename only if item is found in first position of filename.
Summary
This program does what it promises in a fast, simple, no frills way.
With very few steps I could reorganize a sizable collection of files. It also has an option of previewing the changes so you can evaluate the impact of an action like if it really brings the wanted results.
Wish I had this program long ago. It is powerful, handy, valuable tool. -
"Broken Tags"
Version: File and MP3 Renamer 2006 5.25
Pros
It does well renaming files
Cons
It corrupts id3 tags and the old tags remain in windows explorer or when imported into iTunes. It is slow as hell.
Summary
Get mp3tag instead.

"Didn't Work For Me"

Cons

"This works great on my HP with Windows 7-64 Home Prem."
Version: File and MP3 Renamer 2006 5.25
Pros
Zero errors to install, zero run errors in 2+ weeks. Renames files in batches I define intuitively, and does it instantly over as many folders in depth as I want. It performs similar but much more extensive functions for MP3 files. And it's free.
Cons
I have used this app a lot, but there are things I haven't tried. Maybe one of those will fail. But so far, it has performed perfectly.
Summary
I'm pretty careful about recommending software to friends. I recommend this software to friends.
Since writing my review, I have, indeed, found several functions that this software would not perform. Still, it does most of what I want, and all of the tasks I actually need. I have not replaced it. Perhaps 4 stars would have been appropriate.

"Versatile program for file name changes"
Version: File and MP3 Renamer 2006 5.25
Pros
Did just what I needed -- stripped characters up to a string on 125 file names, simply, in one batch. File Renamer Basic can't do this. Has many more options than Basic, simpler interface. Shows preview automatically; Basic only gives warning.
Cons
None I've seen in brief use. Will not use for MP3.
Summary
The critical need for this type of program is to maximize the options for batch file name change, and this program does that. File Renamer Basic, while seeming to have many options, is really quite rigid and limited..

"Worth downloading for the file renamer alone"
Version: File and MP3 Renamer 2006 5.25
Pros
I haven't used the MP3 portion so my comments are confined to file renaning only. Renamer allows a subset of regexp-style changes without resorting to scripts or shells. Places itself on Windows Explorer context menu. Clean interface.
Cons
None that I've found.
Summary
This is not the kind of tool that you use extensively so it's difficult to evaluate but for me it did what it says it would do and did it nicely.

"Quick and easy to use"
Version: File and MP3 Renamer 2006 5.25
Pros
Did exactly what it said it would, easy to figure out.
Cons
None so far.
Summary
Used with Vista to rename multiple photo files (attaching a standard prefix to all files in a folder) and worked great. User interface is very friendly and easy to figure out.

"Great software"
Version: File and MP3 Renamer 2006 5.25
Pros
Very useful for more than MP3s. Your MP3s will not be destroyed. Can change various artists CDs easier and many other MP3editors.
Cons
Give it a chance, I like it, you have to spend a couple of hours to know this software.
