"Happy with it so far."
Version: File Shredder 2
Pros
Appears to do what it says it does.
Cons
None observed so far.
Summary
Appears to be a good free shredder. I've only used it a couple of times so far. It works fast and seemingly well.

"Follows symlinks to other computers and erases there :("
Version: File Shredder 2
Pros
Basically works
Cons
Shouldn't follow symbolic links to external locations.
Summary
I wanted to wipe the files off of a hard drive but discovered it was following symbolic links to files on another computer, which I did not want deleted! So I have unexpected data loss as a result.

"5 Star (until Win7)"
Version: File Shredder 2
Pros
Very quick, very thorough. Shell integration makes erasure simple.
The Gutman process can take a lot of time with a big file, GB size, but is the ultimate in clean wiping.
I've used this program for years. Well, up until I got Win7...Cons
It works in Win7, but...
(1)No shell integration
(2)No drag & drop to desktop icon
(3)No drag & drop into opened program
With Win7, you need to open the program, add the files, and wipe.Summary
Under WinXP (SP3), this program is a charm! I'm lazy, tho'. I loved the shell integration. I loved the ability to drag & drop into the program window.
I'm not too sure about the extra work I need to do with this in Win7. However, I have not found a compatible utility like File Shredder, so it may be that I am going to have to spend those precious few seconds or minutes getting rid of junk in my system.
I highly recommend this program, Win7 shortfall in mind. It is not supported by the maker, but what the heck... It's FREE, fer cryin' out loud!!
btw, I also tried file recovery using free programs like Recuva. I was able to "recover" little bits and pieces of some shredded files, but nothing functional. If you are shredding files because you want to hide your activities or do not wish for your files to be discovered, don't use File Shredder. If you're looking to free up space on your hard drive, this is the one! -
"So far so good!"

Pros

Cons
Nothing to say.

"Not really worth the time..."
Version: File Shredder 2
Pros
1. Easy to use GUI interface.
2. Worked well for me shredding document and PDF files.Cons
1. It doesn't dependably install into the right click interface.
2. Many files especially video or picture files (jpg, jpeg, etc..) are easily recoverable with a free program such as recuva.Summary
It gives a false sense of security on deleted/shredded documents.

"Messed up my external hard drive interface"
Version: File Shredder 2
Pros
Securely shreds files as described
Cons
May cause external hard drive interface to stop working
Summary
Completely messed up my hard drive interface after wiping free space. I tried connecting other working hard drives to the enclosure and none of them are recognized anymore after using File Shredder (though I'm sure the hard drives themselves still work fine). The program must have corrupted something on the IDE interface. Stay away.

"Did Not integrate into right click menu"
Version: File Shredder 2
Pros
Couldn't tell ya
Cons
Didn't integrate into the right click menu on windows 7 ultimate.
Summary
The only reason I downloaded is to have a shredder integrated into my right click menu. When right clicking on files to securely delete which it did not do like it said it would in publishers description.

"Shredding...what?"
Version: File Shredder 2
Pros
easy to use
Cons
I tried shredding hard-disks, memory pens, Sd cards. I tried the best algorythms available on fileshredder but I always was able to recovery image files using Icare data recovery software (licensed). I also used Aoo0 shredder, and same result.
Summary
Am I mistaking something? I'm currently looking for a new shredding program
