"Strong enough for a man, but girls like it too"
Version: File Renamer Turbo 2.62
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Sorry to borrow a tag line from a soap commercial, but I've been using File Renamer Turbo for several months and I'm blown away by its ease of use AND it's incredible power. I originally obtained a free copy from a giveawayoftheday site, and used it for a few weeks to rename MP3 files. I was impressed how with how easy it was to do simple file renames, but noticed several added tools that I could use. I wrote the authors for some basic instructions and they gave me several sample scripts that I could use with File Renamer that solved the small issues I had.... and all this for a free version!
My use for File Renamer is about 99% related to MP3 files. I download dozens of songs every week and have a particular style that I want them to be called before loading into my library. I hate track numbers in song titles, yet most of the ones I obtain from Russian sites have track numbers in the titles. I also despise underscores_between_title_words and these too have to be fixed. When dealing with a couple of file names, manual editing is no big deal. But when working with dozens or perhaps a hundred or more at a time, the manual method gets old quickly.
File Renamer Turbo allows me to create a series of steps in my process, like removing the track numbers, adding the Artist's name and removing the underscores, then save all the steps in a script to be reused the next time I open the program. I also fix strange contractions that appear in song titles, like "I_m_" becomes "I'm".
The editing isn't limited to file names, either. I can correct album titles, music genre and the embedded artist names in the MP3 tag, all withing the same file renaming process.
I use File Renamer Turbo on work files, such as Excel, too, at times. I can, for example, insert a "2009 - " in front of all my collected project file names at the end of the year to easily see when the file was completed.
File Renamer Turbo is an incredibly easy program to learn, and the power of this tool keeps impressing me every day I use it. The authors are very responsive and helpful, too. The newest version - 2.64 - works just fine in Windows 7. -
"Great utility!"
Version: File Renamer Turbo 2.52
Pros
Fast, easy to use
Has very useful, more complex tools for renaming many files at onceCons
Not so hot in changing music tags
Summary
This is a great program, and well worth it's modest price. It works fast and handles dozens of files in the wink of an eye. I download lots of music and podcasts and have developed a consistent method for naming those files. I don't like the_underscore_character that comes in most music downloads and want dates in front of my podcasts.
File Renamer Turbo allows me to automatically rename those files, including dropping the track number that often shows up in song file names. Support on the product is remarkable. I contacted Kristanix to get an understanding of how to better use it and they got back to me within hours with personalized detailed instructions. It doesn't get better than this!
Great program - try it, then buy it. -
"Not so good"
Version: File Renamer Turbo 2.46
Pros
It works, barely.
Cons
Too confusing.
For most first-time users using this program would get a headache since the program have so many panels the users must take care of.
The look feels too simple.
Provide so little option other than the basic.
Needs work, please refer to File Renamer Basic for ideas.

"This product is Awesome!!!"
Version: File Renamer Turbo 2.4
Pros
I think this product is so cheap for how good it is. And their support is very responsive. I can undo a rename, add systematic prefixes and suffixes, as well as find and replace and subjective tagging. I have used this to trim characters from the beginning of files or the middle. You can change extensions and more. I use this all the time, and I can say that it has saved me hours if not days! If you do massive file management, this price is a bargain and this tool is a necessity!!!!!
Cons
I would love it if you could load a text file with the file path, exisiting name, and then the custom name to change it to, but that is not available. I will say that support actually talked to me on the phone and said they have had this request and are working on it. So, is this a con? hmmm. Room for improvement I call it.

"Just what I was seeking"
Version: File Renamer Turbo 1.1
Pros
The user interface is beautiful. The software is so easy to use. The real surprise came when I was renaming files without an extension. File Renamer Deluxe told me the type of file before I renamed it. It's so simple to use and gives a preview of what the new file name will look like before it is converted. Bravo!

"Outstanding!!! *****"
Version: File Renamer Turbo 1
Pros
This is the only program I have seen where I can rename files in different folders. For instance, if I do a search for files like *.jpg and every file in different folders with exactly the same names will come up. From there you can drag and drop them to the lower display, click advanced renaming, remove name, and increment numbers as the new name. The results can then be searched again, and dragged into a common folder without overwriting anything because all files have different names with the same extension.
Also, the program is free! And very well written!
