"Does not work with Windows 8"

    November 16, 2013  |   By Sherod_Unresponsive

    Version: File Renamer Basic 6.3

    Pros

This product was a great product prior to Windows 8. I had used it for several years on Windows XP and Windows 7. However, with Windows 8, File Renamer simply refuses to work.

    Cons

Does not work with Windows 8 (64-bit). The publisher, Sherod Computers, is unresponsive to multiple emails requesting support, despite the fact that I had paid for the software.

    Summary

I have tried installing the software (version 6) with and without Administrative privileges, all without success. You will see the splash screen for a second, then error messages appear. Most of the time all you get is a process running in memory. No user interface ever appears. On a rare occasion the UI will appear, but half of the components on the form are missing, making the product totally unusable. Attempting to close the program when this occurs always fails. One must ALT+CTRL+DEL to kill the program. I have tried multiple "Compatibility modes", again, all to no avail. It is sad to see a software publisher let what use to be a decent software program fall into disrepair. I would suggest users to look elsewhere for a file renaming solution.

"It's simple, and does what it says it does."

August 25, 2013  |   By The Masked Villain

    Version: File Renamer Basic 6.3

    Pros

It's an easy program to master, and it does what it says it will do. Re-name your files to some semblance of order.

    Cons

It's not as flexible as some or the other renaming programs out there, but it doesn't pretend to be.

    Summary

If you have a lot of digital photographs on your hard drive, you know that there is no logical naming scheme to them. File Renamer Basic will help even the novice bring order to that kayos.

    "Fast, easy, feature packed"

    June 19, 2013  |   By hayseed0a1

    Version: File Renamer Basic 6.3

    Pros

I was amazed at the options available in the free version and how easy and quick it is to rename a series of photos so they wouldn't duplicate photos I already had. I just know there are people out there who have no idea that this sort of functionality is even available.

    Cons

    I found None

    Summary

If you take digital photos or have serialized files of any sort, you need this program.

"What a piece of Adware spawning CRAP"

    February 8, 2013  |   By cm_duran

    Version: File Renamer Basic 6.3

    Pros

none - I couldn't install with win 7 64bit - the documentation does not say that.

    Cons

Although it wouldn't install File Rename, it did manage to install some vicious adware. Apparently CNET is not in cahoots with the adware infector. How cold they give it FIVE stars. Maybe they get different versions than the general public.

    Summary

I wouldn't recommend this to my worst enemy
