"Pointless Make it simpler"
Version: Fences 1.01
Pros
Attractive
Cons
It is much easier to open a folder, or folders, on the desktop and store the less frequently used programs in there.
For instance I do a thorough maintenance once a week. All my maintenance program icons are simply dragged into that folder.
Similarly I have a folder for less frequently used programs such as Chess, Games, FastStone etc.Summary
Pointless
Can easily open a folder on desktop by right clicking it

"GREAT PROGRAM for Win XP and 32-bit Win 7, but...."
Version: Fences 1.01
Pros
If you can get it to install and run, you'll love this program. I've used this for years at my last job on Windows XP and on 32-bit Windows 7 and love it. At my current job, our guys in IT noticed it on my PC and loved it. BUT....
Cons
... recently I've been upgraded to 64-bit Win 7 and, sad to say, I can't even get it to install. Some error about decompressing pops up. I've tried the suggestions their support say and also their support forums say, but still no success. I think something is wrong with their installer and/or it just doesn't like 64-bit Windows. DARN, just when I was about to buy the pro versions of this and their other software. Oh well.

"Great Desktop Organizer"
Version: Fences 1.01
Pros
Glad I found this, my desktop look so much neater, and I can find my icons easier.
Cons
None that I can think of.
-
"Outstanding desktop organizer."
Version: Fences 1.01
Pros
This is a very simple but valuable tool to organize the desktop. Recently, my computer was in a local shop for some hardware upgrades and the service technician commented on how organized my desktop appeared.
Cons
No complaints whatsoever.
Summary
If you like simple to use organizers, this is the one to use. Easy to set up and simple to make changes.

"useful but has limitations"
Version: Fences 1.01
Pros
allows you to take a 'snapshot' of your desktop, with all icons in desired spots. Then when windows decides to re-shuffle them for you (like on start-up) you can easily restore desktop to the way you had it before.
Cons
The 'fences' themselves don't work 4 me. Every time i make a fence around a group of icons, when i click on 'create fence for these icons' the program re-shuffles all the icons - new positions, new sizes, etc. Almost as bad as windows. So I can't actually use the 'fences' themselves, only the 'snapshot' part of the prog.
Summary
good 4 a freebie

"Great utility. Keeps unruly desktop in good shape."
Version: Fences 1.01
Pros
Easy to install. Easy to create new fences. Unlimited color options.
Cons
None that I can think of.
Summary
I have four monitors. Without Fences, icons would be scattered all over the place. My main monitor, a 22"W device, has to 19" monitors on each side. Then to my far left is a 15" monitor turned 90 degrees in "portrait" mode ... I use that for my icon groups (via Fences): Basic System, Microsoft Office, Utilities, Web Development, and Reference (frequently used PDF files, etc.). I do have a few icons on the other monitors, but they are not used often. Before I got fences, I just kept these icons in five file folders - they were not visible, and there was always that extra step to open the folder and then select the icon. Now the icons are visible and organized. Highly recommended app.

"Does as advertised but could use some tweaking"
Version: Fences 1.01
Pros
It works exactly as advertised and is a good product.
Cons
Once you set up fences on the desktop you don't have the ability to lock them into place once they are set the way you want. I discovered that if I have an open window or two and I am not careful I can accidentally re-size or change my fences instead of the open window if their borders are close enough together. I easily caught the side of the fence instead of the open window on occasion when I re-sized a window. I uninstalled the product and went back to my old desktop.
Summary
Its good for a free product.

Cons

-
"Easy to Set up and works well!"
Version: Fences 1.01
Pros
Easy Set Up
Cons
Can be little tricky to get customization exactly as you like but worth it!

"One problem"
Version: Fences 1.01
Pros
Easy to configure and use
Cons
some icons leave the fence.
Summary
I have been using fences for a couple of weeks now and really like it, but there is a frustrating issue occuring with my system. Frequently after clicking on an icon within a fence (which is locked) and running that app, I exit the app to find that the associated icon has "escaped" from the fence and returned to the unassigned icon group on my desktop. This is Win7 with destop set to auto arrange. I have tried disabling auto arrange with the same result.
