I prefer to see what wallpaper I have on my desktop without a lot of icons in the way. Fences is the perfect way to stage icons and folders that you want to get to, but don't have the time for. Just double click, and they all disappear. And its FREE!

Fences makes it so much easier for me to organize my desktop. U can make as many fences as you want, name them what you want, make them any size you want, and even put them where u want.

I have had fences for probably over a year now and have never had a problem with it!
Summary
It helps me keep my desktop so much more organized and instead of searching all over, I can have things in certain area's such as anything music in one fence. Anything to do with pictures or picture editing in a fence. Folders in one fence, etc...
If you get sick of seeing a lot of stuff on your desktop, you just right click on the icons you always want shown and make it always visible, and then when you double slick, everything will disappear except what you want shown. When you want everything back, you simply double click again. Love it! -

Dispite it's limits, once you master it, it can organize a crowded desktop. Though it's limited in design and the number of boxes you can add or subtract; it does give you enough design features to give it a nice look.
