For a free program, this multipurpose image tool strikes us as a good find. Although the main window looks too cluttered at first glance, it's intuitive enough after you get your bearings. FastStone Image Viewer for Windows boasts a nice design already, but you can customize it to your liking with several skins. Clicking a thumbnail puts a larger view of the shot in the lower-left pane, and you zoom in simply by dragging the mouse around. Though its image-editing tools can't compete with those offered by a full-featured suite, there's still enough here to make a decent amount of tweaks to your shots. You can resize, crop, remove red-eye, and adjust color, brightness, and contrast. You'll also find a few simple effects and filters, including Lens, Waves, and Morphs. FastStone Image Viewer for Windows can batch-convert files into a number of popular image formats including GIF, BMP, PSD, and PNG, and the slide-show creator allows you to apply transitions, specify the interval between images, and add your own MP3s as a soundtrack. We can recommend this program to everyone but professional designers.Publisher's description

Version: FastStone Image Viewer 2.5
"The best program ever to grace my PC (and this is an understatement)"
Pros: (1) Superb user interface. Nothing comes close (and I'm not talking only image viewers here). I especially like the full-screen-centric design that doesn't give up any functionality thanks to the auto-hidden pop-up panels. You have to use it to understand how much better a program can be with such an ingenious UI (2) Full-featured both as a viewer and as a casual editor. (3) Very reliable (4) Fast, though perhaps not as fast as ACDsee. (5) Excellent batch processing and renaming. (6) Very high quality resizing (Lanczos3, not available even in PhotoShop) (7) Constantly being developed. The developer, Andrew Lu, is amazingly responsive. Some features were developed a few hours after users requested them. (8) Free for home users (yet I did feel obliged to donate, it's so good)
Cons: (1) Sharpening and contrast sliders don't offer enough notches; they're a bit too coarse (e.g. I sometimes need options between 1 and 2, I usually settle for the less extreme) (2) Some of the defaults settings can be better (3) Brightness / Contrast / Gamma dialog should be combined with the histogram display (4) No auto-levels

"It should change one's mind: There is real FREE lunch!"
Pros: Fantastic! IMO, it is better than the paid ACDSee 5.0 which I used to use. I associate ALL image files now with FastStone Image Viewer (go menubar -> Settings -> Settings -> Association -> then choose all of them).
The rest of FastStone freewares in their website are also very good, particular the FastStone Capture, which can copy the whole webpage, even though my laptop cannot be big enough to show it in full. Very powerful stuff! One should get all the freewares there for PERSONAL USE.
This freeware deserves 6 stars. Here, I can only allow to give 5.
Cons: Up to now, I have not found any. Just one opinion: change the skin to WinXP classic, which fits the screen better.
