easy to use and fast way to keep the line running easy to up date to the web can find indvauels in your family index ok In general a great little program

This and ver 5.0 are both out of date they dont suport either ver 4.3 or 5.0 smart matching is not suported any longer. I use it still but I'm looking for a new program trying new programs are a real pain to learn.
Summary
Have used Ver 5.0 now for over 5 years been helpfull to keep track of our family. Have made a mess out of my files with the smartmatching so i started over when I discovered that the program was not looking for matches any longer. when I went to contact the company trough there wep page it said if i had purchased it from comp usa or others stores contact them not us at pearl street or was it indvgal? But the program is easy to use but I wanted to get something better found that the ver of family tree heritage 7.0 and genbox ver 3.? have the same features so I will try genbox first for the next 30 days. But family tree 4.3 is upgradable to 5.0 and ver 5.0 is free to download with the serial number from HTTP://www.familytreelegends.com/downloads so save your money try them out for free if you like it then try genbox 3.? and then buy family tree heritage 7.0 for ver 4.3 and 5.0 have no suport can upload and save data and even download it. it just lacking for functions
Nice charts and reports have not really tryed to print them out deleting duplcates is easy but have to relly read as what you are doing as for inputing notes have to change screens and that will not apear in the report unless you print out a seperat report on the notes and the try to index it in somehow

No ability to add notes to events. Why don't genealogy programmers realise that users need to add notes to events to create a meaningful report. Many other programs available with this ability.

Pros
Having used Family Origins for many years, I was looking for replacement software. I reviewed several packages, but Legends was the winner. It was attractively presented, it accepted my Gedcom files without error, and it had enough features to make me pick it as my new working software package.
Cons
Although simple to use, it is a complex program. I am still trying to figure out how to control chart output to my printer to avoid cutting boxes during transition to new pages.

Hi everyone. I've tried several ASP versions of gen software and FTM 11 when it first came out. Although all seemed reasonable, when I found Family Tree Legends (version 2.something), I was thrilled! It wasn't perfect back then, but support and service was very accessible and very interested not only in helping me, but in obtaining feedback for upgrading the product. I've since upgraded to 5.0 and love it. It's pretty, intuitive, works really well and has everything I need. I love, love, love it!

Not much wrong with it that I can tell. [[My problem is, way back when, I tried to import my cousin's whole GEDCOM file (which included hundred upon hundreds of entries, notes and interconnectedness to my fledgling but pretty full attempt at what I knew about my family (about 500 names). The merge, originally done in the old clunker Family Tree MAKER 11.[something], ended in a muddled, tangled, complex mess. A while back, I tried (with Family Tree Legends (earlier version) to fix the mess by 'finding duplicates' but alas, the problem was too tough for this baby, too. I long past resigned myself to start again and retype everything from scratch and properly. So, in view of that...]] I guess the only thing I can say I wish they'd fix (and I haven't complained so this isn't really fair) is the fact that only one instance of the Family Tree Legends can be open at a time. With my messy situation, I have to have an old and a new file open in order to see the old mess and type into the new. Right now, I can work with two computers with two different files open (I know, it's really a mess!), which is what I'm working on now... Moral of my missive? Be very careful when 'merging' files as it can easily get screwed up beyond repair! Oh, and pick up a copy of Family Tree Legends! If you like this download, you'll LOVE the new 5.0 for a very low retail price!

Although a good program with some useful features, I found the online database to be absolutely useless. It's obviously a program for Americans as the online database is American only, no good if you aren't a Yankee. There is also no way to print out an entire family tree on a large A3 page - you will end up with hundreds of A4 pages that need to be stuck together!

"Goes beyond the norm"

Pros
By far the strongest feature of the program is SmartMatch. This feature allows FTL users to go out to a massive online database similar to Ancestry.com's OneWorldTree or OneGreatFamily.com, to search for records connected to your own. Possible matches are presented. You can then do side-by-side comparisons on key facts for each record to determine if this is a match. Even then, you can select which facts per individual you want to merge into your own database. You can also contact the person who submitted the other records for possible further collaboration. Excellent feature!
Cons
I'd like to see more tools for cleaning up databases, i.e., utilities for finding duplicates and offering ways to discard them, as well as dealing with orphan records, such as intelligent utilities that suggest possible solutions.
