Facebook for Android presents a mobile version of the popular social network with a few phone-only features.

Pros

Connect with friends: After you sign in, the app pulls in all your Facebook information, turning your phone into a miniature Facebook feed. Follow posts, like comments, share updates -- just like you would with the desktop version.

Nicely designed: In many ways, the mobile app does a nicer job of presenting all the information Facebook has to offer, with feeds, videos, news, and events neatly displayed on separate tabs.

Facebook Live: Live is specific to the mobile app and lets you share a live video stream with your followers and groups or share from events. During the live stream, see viewer comments and respond. Then, following the broadcast, the recorded stream will appear in your feed.

Privacy settings: You can review and adjust privacy and account settings in the app, but the settings are stowed five taps away from the main tab.

Marketplace: Check out stuff for sale in your area. Browse through items or search by category. Tap an item to see a description, see the general location of the seller, send a message, and make an offer. You can also sell items.

Notifications: Quickly view birthdays, events, recent photos and posts, and friend requests.

Cons

Separate messaging: To chat with Facebook friends, you need to download Messenger, which on Android is a separate app from Facebook.

Catch-all drawer: Favorites, groups, and connected apps are gathered together in a navigation drawer on the right.

Bottom Line

Facebook for Android lets you follow news from your social network via an easy-to-navigate app. The app fits in phone-only features such as Live but leaves out Messenger, Android's top messaging app.
