Rather expensive with regard to the modest picture quality.
Nice for watching news during a Mac session. Not more.

No, really...the eyeTV is a nice gadget for an acceptable price...and although both the hardware and especially the software could use several features to make it really cool, it is quite nice already...! Especially now that they added the tvtv online guide for Germany and some other European countries...! Anyway, as other people mentioned before me - there is much space for improvement and hopefully elgato will come up with improved software versions soon...!?

Ok, some of us in Europe have at last got schedule support. Great. What EyeTV really needs to be looking at is a: input from digital cable. b: output via firewire. c: record in several different formats (DV, MPEG2, MPEG4 would be nice) Then I'm happy. Not a bad product for the price, but really needs the format thing.

This product is the ugly stepsister to TiVo. Do not waste your time with it. My 1GHz eMac with 1GB RAM actually crashed every other time I used it. That has NEVER happened before.

    "It's great"

    Version: EyeTV 1.2

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I just wanted to post a good rating for the EyeTV. It has been by far one of the best purchases I have made for my Mac. It seems in my life I am always missing my favorite shows because I am busy when it airs but I also hated programming VCRs and finding tapes to use. Now with EyeTV I have it all scheduled and I watch them when I can. It's absolutely great. I have had no problems at all with my EyeTV and in many cases I am surprised by how versatile and innovative it is. I highly recommend this if you 1)miss your shows often 2)don't really like VCRs and 3)don't already own a TiVo

    "Excellent!"

    Version: EyeTV 1.2

    Summary

I really do love EyeTV, and this update made it even better by fixing bugs etc. Still not perfect, though. First of all, needs program guide in more countries (UK please!). The rest are just suggestions really for possible future improvements:

    1. Ability to "group" recorded movies, or put them into folders and sub-folders etc.

    2. iCal integration would be pretty cool for scheduling recordings. And hey, if they did that, you could subscribe to a "TV" calendar online with listings for each episode of your favorite TV program, and have eyeTV follow that guide and record them! Pretty cool if your program doesn't repeat at the same time every week, but iCal integration would be cool anyway.

    3. Teletext support. Might as well. Could be useful to some people.

    4. Burning within the program rather than having to have a copy of Toast.

    5. DVD recording as-well as VCD for SuperDrive users. Maybe integration with iDVD for creating menus, or just burn a plain old "play/stop" disk that could be burnt in-program.

That's about it really. I don't' know if I'm supposed to post suggestions here, but I thought I might as well. I suspect many of them will either never come true, or are a long way off, but what the hey, I can dream!

As I said, so far so good, but there's a lot more scope for new features.
