Version: Expstudio Audio Editor Free 4.31
"Good, but it deleted files upon exit"
Pros: It was easy to select the recording source (although a little hidden because the tab was sideways). To select the source click on the recording tab.
Cons: It did not let me save the file as an MP3 and ask to upgrade for that. It deleted all of the sound files I had in that temp directory. It named the files as temp files and deleted them upon exiting the program. So I was left with nothing.
Summary: If you rename the temp files to wav you will be able to hear them and keep them. The action of deleting files makes me think that the free program is a trial version, not one that you will keep for regular use.
Updated on Sep 21, 2009UPDATE: I realized that the program not only saves the files in a temp directory in its directory, but in the My Documents folder.
During installation the program file asks if the user wants to optionally install the Microsoft Framework 1.1 or so. I selected ?no? and the program installed normally, but when I run it the Windows Vista registry failed. Still the program worked, but got me concerned about the Registry. Later on the time in the computer clock stopped going forward. The recordings I did for some reason got somewhat mingled. I liked the program?s quality of sound, but got concerned about the Registry and unhappily decided to uninstall the program until a new version comes. I might install it in my Windows XP computer instead.
Updated on Sep 21, 2009You will be able to save the files. You will need to select one sound source for the recording: either the microphone, the speakers, etc, but only at once. I was looking for recording two sources at the time. I have not used the program long enough to give you the most reliable comments. You could download it and it might work very well for you. I liked the very nice interface and the good quality of the sound. I just wondered why one file placed on top of the other as if both have mingled. It seemed like the sound sources for the output varied (were the one I wanted displayed sometimes and sometimes not).
