"Avast rang a "malicious URL blocked" warning"

    June 3, 2011  |   By Fangorn2000

    Pros

    Don't know

    Cons

Avast AV did not like the installation program

    Summary

Win Vista Family Premium - Firefox 3.6.17
    I am in France
Logged in to my CNET account.
    Went to download.Expat-Shield/3000-2092_4-75211377.html page.
    Clicked "Download now"
Allowed requested redirection to enable download
    File C:\...\Downloads\ExpatShield-cnet-DM-232.exe
Scanned that file with Avast ("no threat detected") before running it.
Dvl-clicked that file to start installation.
Accepted the suggested default location -- my desktop
    Started install process.
OK'd Win Defender's question abt allowing program to run.
Progress bar half-way through when real-time Avast rang the alarm bell and popped up:
    "MALICIOUS URL BLOCKED
"avast! NetworkShield has blocked a harmful site.
"visit the avast! communityIO info portal for more information*
    "Object: Getyoufired.com/.../ExpatShield-cnet-HSS-232.exe?def=expat
    "Infection: URL/Mal
    "Action: Blocked
    "Process: C:\...\Downloads\ExpatShield-cnet-DM-232.exe"

    * I did not find more information.

An icon C:\...\Desktop\HSS-2.02-install-anchorfree-232-expatshield.exe had appeared on my desktop despite my aborting the install.

Deleted that file. Did not find any new folder or files from a partial (or complete) instatlation under C:\programmes or C:\program files (x86).

What to think? Is this "normal" and *acceptable* behaviour for ExpatShield?

Getyoufired.com is a server run by Anchorfree.com the maker of Expat Shield. This is the server used to set up a VPN connection with a UK IP address.
This appears to be Avast being overly cautious about a connection.
