Effective and powerful, Excel Password Recovery Key has minor disappointments: its manual and trial limitations. The utility performed well in our tests, finding simple passwords in seconds and showing good speeds when searching variants with the dictionary method. Unfortunately, trial-version limitations prevented us from estimating the speed of brute-force attacks. Since some searches may take a while, it's helpful to be able to set process priorities to minimize performance issues. The manual could do a better job explaining some of the program's advanced capabilities. We'd recommend Excel Password Recovery Key for anyone desperate to uncover lost or forgotten spreadsheet passwords.Publisher's description
From Passware :Excel Password Recovery Key finds passwords for MS Excel files (XLS). It works with all versions of Excel and provides instant recovery for all types of passwords, including workbook and worksheet passwords. Excel 2003, XP, 2K, and 97 file-open passwords are recovered using a combination of brute-force, Xieve, and dictionary attacks. All Excel 95 7.0, 5.0, and 4.0 passwords are instantly recovered. Excel Password Recovery Key is now capable of recovering passwords for files encrypted using additional cryptographic service providers (advanced Office XP protection technology). The program has support for multilingual passwords and introduces a redesigned user-friendly interface that enables both novice and pro users to handle recovery tasks easily. Features include a common-style toolbar, recovery-progress autosaving, and reports. The program also has online help and full install/uninstall support.

Version: Excel Password Recovery Key 6.3
Pros: Fast and effective, even on relatively strong passwords. The first Excel file that I gave it had multiple sheets, only one of which was protected. It turned out to have a 15-character, apparently random password, which was recovered in about 6 seconds.

Summary: No only did it not see the password I had on my file that I forgot. It tried to send email from my computer. It tried to connect to the internet.
