Summary
An Excel spreadsheet would have a .xls or .xlsx extension. The download had a .exe extension. A package of files should have a .zip extension. I saw no reason to expose my computer to a possible virus just for an Excel spreadsheet.

I'm partial to the offerings of this company, Vertex42, having used several of this person's spreadsheet creations (also has a great times-sheet for employees and payroll calculator, both of which can be modified). This calendar is simple, elegant, easy to enter events and appointments, bills to be paid, etc.
