Version: Exact Audio Copy 0.9 beta 3
Pros: I've tried several CD rippers. This is by far the best. Loaded with options, free, perfect music quality. In the latest version, it included a veryfing system to certify you've accurately ripped each and every song. You can enconde your music in practically any format you may want - mp3, wma, ogg, flac, ape, you name it.
Cons: You'll need to invest a little bit of time to make the most of the app. But having achieved your desired config, it's just a matter of clcking a button and there you have perfectly sounding files. Couple it with MediaMonkey and you've got all you need to rip, organize and listen to music.

Version: Exact Audio Copy 0.9 beta 3
Pros: Rips, even on scratched discs, you have FULL control over how good you want the file to be (if you want exact, you set it up and this program will do it, if you want smaller file sizes you can get those too), does it in many different formats, automatically gets names for album and tracks, automatically creates playlists, and for free (it's donation-ware). I've used it for years. There have been many others that have come along since this first came out, and I've tried a bunch of them. I always end up deleting the rips from the other program and re-rip with EAC. This software has always been "beta" but I would have to say that in beta it's better than most software is in "full" version.
Two good articles on how to configure EAC - 1st with MP3 and 2nd with FLAC (firefox will figure this out but you may have to put in the w w w )

Version: Exact Audio Copy 0.9 beta 3
Pros: What makes EAC special compared to other rippers is the fact that it is capable of reading audio CDs PERFECTLY. EAC uses various methods for extracting audio data. EAC can also invoke externally installed encoders like FLAC, LAME mp3 v3.97, thereby making it possible to simultaneously rip and encode audio data to the format of your choice.

Version: Exact Audio Copy 0.9 beta 3
Pros: It does a far better job of making high-quality copies than most other rippers. It carefully monitors the CD player for errors, and forces it to retry until it reads the CD correctly. You don't get the clicks you can get with other rippers. I have read that some upload sites wouldn't accept submissions ripped with anything else. (I believe that because it makes sense, but I don't use such sites so it's not first-hand information.)
Cons: It's not particularly easy to use, but getting better. The options are complex. The documentation is very limited and the author does not speak English as his first language. It's also officially "pre-beta" software, but it has fewer bugs than many officially released programs.
Note: As of Jan. 24, 2008, the current version is 0.99 prebeta 4. (Download.com has a 6 year old version!) Download.com won't let me post the correct download link, so search for it with Google.
