Editors' Review
Anyone who's used a computer for any length of time--especially anyone who installs and uninstalls software with any frequency--knows that it doesn't take long for your machine to become cluttered with invalid registry entries, broken shortcuts, and other junk that takes up space and slows system performance. Eusing Cleaner is a simple program that provides a variety of tools for tidying up your computer. As with any program that accesses the registry, proceed with caution, but used judiciously Eusing Cleaner can definitely take out the trash.
Eusing Cleaner has a straightforward interface that looks a little dated but is quite easy to navigate. Down the left side there are menu items for Cleaner, Registry, Defrag, Tools, Options, and More, which takes users to an online Help file. Each of these items contains a collapsible menu with check boxes, allowing users to select exactly what they want the program to scan for.
In the Cleaner settings, for example, you can scan for a variety of different items within Internet Explorer, Netscape, Opera, Firefox, Chrome, Microsoft Office, instant-messaging applications, and other programs. The Registry menu lets you scan for problems in the Start menu, Help file paths, startup programs, and many other locations. Any registry cleaner worth its salt should have a provision for creating a registry backup, and Eusing Cleaner does. The program also has a registry defragging tool and some other features, such as the ability to easily delete programs from the startup folder.
We tried Eusing Cleaner's registry tool and it took several minutes to complete what seemed like a very thorough scan; because we do install and uninstall a great deal of software, the program found plenty of invalid registry entries. With a registry backup saved safely on our desktop, we went ahead and had Eusing Cleaner fix all of the problems it detected. We rebooted, and our machine ran just fine, and seemed a little speedier, too. Overall, we found Eusing Cleaner to be both easy to use and effective, and we recommend it, as long as you're careful.
Eusing Cleaner installs a desktop icon without asking and, ironically, leaves a folder and Start menu item behind upon removal.
