"Good for first attempt, easy to use, but requires more to be competitive"
Pros: I really wanted this system to do well, and I was pleasantly surprised. I found it very, very easy to use and supremely useful. However it could be a superb product given further modernisation. It is crying out for more resources if it is to compete internationally. This is an all-in-one simple, no nonsense package that could well help data capture and editing shape files on the cheap, so if you want to do your capture, this is the package for you If you did not try it, then please do, you will be surprised but do not expect a corporate system.
However it also forms the right platform for competing against much more powerful systems such as Cadcorp and Everest GIS but not at the moment.
If you want to see how close this program is to becoming a successful product, then test it against well established more expensive products like Everest GIS.
But overall, this is a very good and simple GIS Swiss knife for a first attempt but could be a world product given further investment in skills and vision, something this company is not short of.
Cons: GIS professionals demand a little bit more than what is currently offered if they are to seriously assess the program. It is outdated (like a program written during the early 90's) and let down by an old style interface, limited file formats, lack of Raster compatibility, no ocx, no API or dll as hooks for developers and it really needs a decent web server/geodatabase in todays cut throat GIS market internationally. It has limited zoom for close up editing, the editing clicks can sometimes runaway and before you know it, the screen is clutterred with points and vectors. It also needs more useful geo-functionalities (georelationships). Oh by the way, please have a more business like web marketing approach that builds strength on the product as a citeria for assessment, not where it comes from. Also please improve the support section for example training demos, better documentations, online demo, screenshots etc.. please no flags and offer a decent tutorial. What matters in GIS is not just the GIS package, but the total package, software, support and keeping well ahead. Finally, where is the .net version? Keep up the good work.
