Electronic laboratory notebook (ELN) is a software program designed to replace paper notebooks. ELNs in general are used by scientists and technicians to document, store, retrieve, and share electronic records to meet legal, regulatory, technical and scientific requirements. An ELN is often maintained to be a legal document and may be used in a court of law as evidence. Similar to an inventor's notebook, the ELN is referred to in patent prosecution and intellectual property litigation. ELNs have the advantage of being easier to search, support collaboration among many users, and more secure than paper counterparts. The app includes the following: Creation of multiple notebooks to track numerous research projects, notebook page creations within each created notebook, a drawing app to insert equations or drawings into the note pages, a map for field researchers, a website database for tracking research websites, a user database to track users, an inspection database for QA/QC or other inspections of the research project(s), a location database to track field research locations, a contact database to track research associates, and an email database to track emails.
