CNET Editors' review
A while back, a Personal Information Manager, or "PIM," was a handheld gadget that did what cell phones and BlackBerrys now do better. PIMs live on in the form of their software, which refined and combined the daily diary, planner, Rolodex, address book, and other wads of paper that once shackled busy people to cluttered desks, thus helping spark the transformation of the workplace. For busy people, they are essential, period. EfficientPIM is simply one of the best we've seen.
It's organized around a familiar and attention-getting subject: today. Tabs manage your calendar, contacts, events, tasks, diary, and notes. The Calendar tab has an especially useful feature: you can view today's entries highlighted in relation to the work week, week, month, year, or customizable time grids, showing you at a glance everything from how long until so-and-so's birthday to your whole life, organized.
You can also customize the layout and look of EfficientPIM, such as adding buttons or changing the color and style. There's a password option and a search feature, naturally, and extensive multilanguage support. The fully functional trial version is free to use for 30 days, after which it is $39.95 to buy, which is way cheaper than hiring a personal assistant. It uninstalls just as efficiently as it does everything else, should you find yourself able to give it up, which may mean you're either an organizational whiz or a lost cause! For the rest of us, resistance is futile: EfficientPIM is just the easy-to-use, all-in-one solution for bringing order to chaos.

"Nice looking and that's about all."
Version: EfficientPIM 3.10 Build 325
Looks similar to Outlook.
Has a handy calendar view.
Interface is attractively designed.
Costs $39.95 which includes up to 2 years of free updates. After that there's a $24.95 bi-annual renewal fee.
It cannot send email reminders and it won't perform tasks such as backing up, opening programs, programmed log-off, restart or shutdown. It can't open web pages. Can't perform FTP transfers. Can't send birthday greetings. Can't speak alarms or entries (useful for the hard of hearing).
Granted it has a password manager and agenda but I can't help but see those as superfluous to the task of a PIM. It tries to be a jack of all trades but even at that it misses the mark by a long shot.
English is not the author's native tongue and, as with so many software programs written by non English speaking people, the web site and instructions have been poorly written making them difficult to understand. When will they learn that if they wish to attract English speakers they need to get their materials professionally translated?
I find it very strange that CNET have not put Kirby Alarm Pro in their list of Contact Management software. With well over 97,000 downloads from this site alone and 732 positive reviews (4.5 stars) it should be at the top of the list. Even more perplexing is the fact that they are still offering v4.45 which was superseded 2 years ago (current version is 5.01).
Kirby Alarm Pro does everything that Efficient PIM doesn't. At a price of $24.95 to include lifetime updates and support, it doesn't take much convincing to know which is the best buy. Kirby Alarm Pro's only downside is that its interface is very basic as in it is entirely devoid of color or design. Its tray icon isn't very attractive either but neither of these detract from its stunning features and performance. It can even be run as a service if desired!
Once you have tried Kirby Alarm Pro you will find it indispensable. It just does so much and is amazingly easy to use. If the author would update the interface he would have the best PIM out there by miles! See the reviews at http://download.cnet.com/kirby-alarm-pro/3000-2084_4-10250874.html
"BLANK CALENDAR. ALL APPOINTMENTS LOST."
Version: EfficientPIM 3.10 Build 322
It is a PIM.
After spending 3 solid days entering all my contacts and appointments, I opened the program again after closing it and saw only a BLANK CALENDAR! All my settings were lost. All my appointments were lost. Gone Forever.
Note: I am very, very meticulous about backup. Interesting fact is that both my default C drive file and my backup file on another partition were LOST.
I can afford the lost money I wasted on this product. But I cannot afford all the lost time!
CNET should actually USE this program for awhile BEFORE RATING it "Spectacular". As a result of this spurious Rave Review, I no longer trust CNET.
"Happy with program, unhappy with support"
Version: EfficientPIM 3.0 Build 316
Pretty open en user friendly
In case of difficulties you're on your own.
Happily used the program until version 3. After version 3 i'm no longer able to export my upgraded appointments. Got three differenet versions from support including a debugging version. Support finally gave up and was unable to help as i was "the only" one with the problem. Only way of moving along was to retype everything, which i'm doing now. In Google Calendar.
"Excellent program with most of the options..."
Version: EfficientPIM 2.96 Build 237
Most of the common features and stability. No notable bugs, very stable
You can't print a monthly calendar it "calendar format", only a "list" view.
I have been using the program (Registered version) for a while and am very impressed with its capabilities and stability. It has handled all my needs without problems. The calendar printing is somewhat limited. I worked around this with a script to do a screen capture-convert to grayscale-print. Again, very stable, reasonably priced, and lots of key features. Check it out...
