Version: Easy GPS Tester 1
"Can't find my Garmin eTrex HC"
Cons: I installed the Easy GPS Tester and the USB drivers from the Garmin site. I rebooted, hooked up the GPS and started the program. I clicked the Auto Detect button and it scanned Com1 and Com2-15 which do NOT exist! No mention of any USB ports! Not worth the price!

This software is not for actual GPSs. It's for USB devices that read NMEA satellite data to turn your laptop into a GPS. This means it tests the device you need to run mapping software on your laptop. These devices typically come with a USB to COM translator so that the mapping software sees a COM port to read NMEA data. That is the part that this software tests. In other words, the Garmin eTrex doesn't feed NMEA into the laptop and therefore it would not be detected.

I forgot to add that the GPS does show up as an MSD-type drive and I can transfer the ,GPX files to my PC.
