"just a great easy to use programme that does everything claimed"

Pros
I have been using eraser for over 1 year now and would reccomend it to anyone. We all worry about on line privacy but we seem to be blind to the most serious threat of all PC THEFT. Ever considered what would happen if your pc was stolen, This is why I purchased Eraser. It deletes that hidden junk that we all know about but never see, in addition to passwords and other confidential information. Eraser is just a great all round programme thats simple to use, and if you use it in conjunction with a programme such as Ad-Aware your hard drive will remain uncluttered and clean. East-Tec's customer support is second to none and on the rare occasion that I have needed support (due to hardware upgrading issues) I have always received an answer the next working day, totally different to another company who market a similar well known product where the 'norm' for a reply from their customer support dept is never less than a week at the very minimum.

Pros
East-Tec Eraser does exactly what it promises to do. The wipe process is fast & thorough. It is very easy to use & highly customisable. The after-sales customer service is excellent (speedy reply by e-mail). Unlike some other programs that I've downloaded, it is non-intrusive & won't try to take over your system!
Cons
In my experience, none.

Pros
It is really nice to have an application that actually does what it is supposed to do. After I downloaded and installed it, it was a piece of cake to get used to it. The interface is intuitive and easy to follow. I have configured the program to take care of all my private stuff from my PC. It didn't take more than a few minutes to set everything up. Now, I am relaxed to know that the program will take care of my privacy.
Cons
Didn't find any cons so far, and I am already using it for some time, as a paid customer. I will continue to use it. Even if there are problems, I am not worried, because the people at East-Tec have always been very friendly and helpful with me.

"Don't use it. Not worth it."

Pros
High security. Complex algorithms used in wiping data, as they claim, but read the cons to get an idea about how trusty this can be.
Cons
The program is too buggy. Trying to erase the very first file resulted in a request for restart, said it will be erased at reboot. I did. Nothing happens, file is still here.
Everytime I try to erase it asks if I want to protect my Windows Restore Points. No matter how many times I selected "don't ask anymore", it just doesn't stick. Everytime it asks and everytime the option is reset.
This software is just an expensive piece of junk.
Stick to Eraser 5.3, the free version. That one works alright.

"A nice and powerful traces cleaner"

I stumbled across a few programs of this kind, but I was amazed by the powerful set of features when I tried East-Tec Erasure program. Not only that it successfully erased all my internet traces (a feature that not many programs could successfully complete), but it also helped me gain more than 200 megs of disk space. I am also in the
medicine field and I need to erase some client data sheets periodically. The Privacy feature helped me define custom
directories to erase periodically. Combined with its internal scheduler, this operation has become a piece of cake for me to perform.

"WARINIG: DON'T USE THIS PROGRAM!!"

Pros
It spent more than 24 hours dong "something" while I was waiting.
Cons
The following happened:
(1) I "erased" some Word documents "beyond recovery", with the default "thorough" method.
(2) I let the program erase all deleted files on my 4 hard drives, spending more than a day.
(3) Win XP found "missing sectors" at startup, and spent some time "fixing" before starting.
(4) I found a new folder, called "C:\FOUND.000", in which I found JUST EXACTLY those files that I chose to erase beyond recovery, with same names, unchanged.
(5) THEN the nightmare began (which I'm desperately spending days now trying to recover): My man HD makes funny "scratching" noises all the time, spends LONG time starting up, AND MOST of my precious data is rendered UNREADABLE! (As a consultant developer this is a tragedy. I have 11 years of professoinal experience, and customers to develop software for.) --- Good luck!

"The Good & The Bad"

Fellow C-Nets...This is the ultimate software in the privacy (wipe it out) category, as I have ever downloaded on this site. One powerful tool!!! Excellent sherrder, 12 different settings of wipe & destroy...and I do mean destroy!! This is the BEST I have tried.
Cons
However it is one of the most expensive in its class...I guess if you are in Gov't work or just super paranoid, you might justify the price...Otherwise I'm on the fence with this one.

Summary
Before purchasing this product, I tried a number of competing downloads. East-Tec has bundled an impressive set of features and everything works. The program is simple to use and allows the user the ability to run in basic or advanced mode. The advanced mode allows you to customize with an easy to understand set of options. I'm able to clean history files on XP and numerous other programs, including my IE, Mozilla Firefox, and AOL browsers in a snap. Want to preserve or lose stored cookies, passwords etc.? You can define it all. The highly important free and slack space eraser provides a number of options including DOD, Guttman and beyond and allows you to set a slider to control the degree of system resources to authorize. This somewhat pricy program is the best of its kind.

"Wait until it gets stabilized."

Summary
I have used the versions of Eraser product for 5 years. Let me share my experience in using this product;
1. Almost all new major releases of this product have had bugs.
For instance, the current major release, version 6 of this product, has at least two bugs:
- User preference settings are not saved.
- Automation settings are not saved.
In addition, there is a ‘feature’ of this product that you might be careful about: Eraser will searches and performs erasing the files on the network-drives mapped to your local work station; the product does not provide the option to exclude the drives to be searched.
2. Poor performance:
Erasing operation takes too much time to complete.
3. Poor customer support.
Communicating the customer support is just troublesome and frustrated experience.
