Summary
I have a DVD which was made with Adobe Premier, which uses Sonic Authorscript (At least that is what it said in a notice on the DVD in a folder called OpenDVD). The VIDEO_TS files on this disk could be seen by the ripper product I actually purchased, Magic DVD Ripper, but when I tried to rip it, it would say, "Can not rip a title with zero duration." (The movie is in one chapter, 1:21:47 long.)
I then tried the 3 other free-to-try DVD ripper products on Download.com which had only a "number of uses" or "number of days" restriction. Same problem, although the error messages were slightly different. Even copied the VIDEO_TS folder to my hard disk, but that made no difference. Finally tried Easiestutils DVD Ripper and it was able to rip the files normally, and fairly fast. I wish I had spent my $35 on this product rather than Magic DVD Ripper. -

Totally worthless. It says DVD you are using is protected. They all are! That's why you buy this type of software to copy them!!!!!!!!!! Why have it on here??????????

"Clunky and Stingy"

The features seem to all be there either by downloading the correct plugins or learning how to correctly use them.
Cons
The trial only allows you 3 tries and the first one is immediately eaten up by an automatic plugin download that requires restarting your computer so you only have 2 more tries to use the software. The default settings of super low quality vid seem to kick back in every time you change anything. The output video for me kept freezing at about 68 to 88% on the large video files requiring a force close. In the end, because of the limited trial, and after installing it on a Vista and an XP machine, I was never able to get it to work as described. A few more tries, I may have been able to figure out what was going wrong but they are apparently too stingy to allow for that.

Very comprehensive set of codecs and conversion options. Seems to have no difficulty with copy protection.
Cons
Absolutely, without a doubt, the SLOWEST ripper I've ever used. Basically, it rips at about playback speed, so if you've got a 2-hour dvd to rip, I hope you don't mind waiting 2 hours to get the job done. This is a serious drawback and will keep me looking for other options. Not worth the money for this kind of performance.
