"it is like a virus, I cannot get rid of it"

    November 20, 2010  |   By cnetero

    Version: EarthDesk 5.5.1

    Pros

I cannot write anything good this time

    Cons

I downloaded for a try, then tried to trash it but it keeps popping as desktop background and the folder never gets deleted. It has done something to the system, I don't know what it is. I would appreciate if somebody could help me with this.

    Summary

it is like a virus, and I would appreciate if somebody could help me get rid of it. My e-mail is calcofluor@hotmail.com. Thanks!

"Makes your Mac desktop into a space station window"

    September 29, 2010  |   By spaderunner_dotmac

    Version: EarthDesk 5.5

    Pros

Well supported - had a problem with upgrading to 5.5 (PPC) version. E-mailed and problem promptly sorted in half-an-hour.

    Cons

None really - There was a charge for upgrading from 4.x to 5.x but well worth it

    Summary

Cheaper than a $40 million Soyuz flight to keep track of the what's happening on earth!

"$24.95 for an app that only works 50% is not worth it."

    September 12, 2010  |   By Big Kid

    Version: EarthDesk 5.4.1

    Pros

    Looks great on desktop.

    Cons

The cloud cover is down constantly.

    Summary

If you want to see live satellite images of cloud cover, there are better apps then Earthdesk which shows a live image 50%of the time.

"Excellent view; extraordinary number of choices."

    June 22, 2010  |   By papanewp

    Version: EarthDesk 5.4

    Pros

Seemingly endless array of choices (projections; magnification; focus). Educational (discover benefits/drawbacks of various projections. Clarity excellent; "real time" = instructive.

    Cons

    All good; getting better.

    Summary

I had a problem initially after a previous update; technical assistance was knowledgeable and friendly in resolving problem. I cannot imagine not having this on my desktop. Having been fortunate enough to actually visited multiple places around the world, I can now "visit" day or night, see the lights (or lack thereof), and imagine the weather patterns playing out.

I love the moonlight renderings, and can see how various phases look from both the ground and from the sky.

It is nice to know that I will never have to be without this, for it is quite inexpensive.

    Kudos.

"Does not work and does not get deinstalled ..."

    March 17, 2010  |   By kposer

    Version: EarthDesk 5.3

    Summary

    ...spyware
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Does not work (G5 with OS X 10.5) - no picture ever shows up. And the deinstallation button does not work either - I tried to deinstall several times but all files remained where they were. Is this some kind of spyware or malware?

    "Very informative and accurate"

    November 25, 2009  |   By prospere

    Version: EarthDesk 5.1.1

    Pros

Has numerous possibilities. Shows actual info and views of the earth and clouds. I especially like the changes in the time of day and night. The city lights at night are quite impressive. The software is updated periodically.

    Cons

I can't think of any specific drawbacks.

    Summary

I use it as wallpaper on my iMac and recommend anyone to at least try it...

    "No Issues Here"

    July 11, 2009  |   By danomar_dotmac

    Version: EarthDesk 5.0.1

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I actually had the opposite problem than other reviewers. Previous versions were sluggish and buggy, but that was before I upgraded to an Intel machine. On my 2.66GHz iMac with 4Gb RAM, v5 has been wonderfully stable and the renderings are fantastic, even clouds. Version 4.x was a bit of a memory hog, and although v5 is supposed to be a leaner application, it still uses just a bit more memory than I would like. Still, it is a nice improvement, and I love all the new configurations. available. It would be a nice feature to be able to select a centering point by dragging rather than by cities or compass points.
