Editors' review

EagleGet can accelerate downloads, pause and resume downloads, and enable one-click downloads. As you've guessed, it's a download manager, but one that not only works but also actually works well. It's not a P2P client or torrent manager but rather integrates with many different browsers to manage all your downloads. It uses multithread technology to download files up to eight times faster, depending on your system. EagleGet enables downloads by dragging, clicking, and by menu. Its Video Sniffer can find videos on YouTube. You can schedule downloads, configure proxies, and enable extras like Clipboard Monitoring, Silent Mode, automatic downloading of file types (with a site exclusion list), and the ability to automate antivirus executables and Command Line parameters. It's freeware that runs in Windows XP to 8.

EagleGet's basic blue-themed interface has a toolbar with four buttons (Add Download, Video Sniffer, Task Cleaner, and Configuration) and a sidebar labeled "My Tasks" that displays All, Processing, and Completed lists in the main view and sorts downloads by type: Media, Documents, Software, and Compressed. We mentioned some of the extensive Configuration options, such as Silent Mode (aka Game Mode), which nixes pop-up notifications -- handy if you've configured EagleGet and your browser to automatically download any new files on monitored sites that appear while you're gaming or watching a movie. Clicking the program's menu button uncovered yet more features and options, including database Import/Export, a floating Task Monitor gadget, a portable version, an extensive Help file, FAQs, blogs, forums, and other resources.

That's a lot, but how does EagleGet work? In a word, fast. We searched for and found a 26-minute animated feature on YouTube that serves us as a sort of benchmark. EagleGet downloaded and saved it with a single click in about seven seconds. We've been ambivalent about download managers and accelerators in the past because so many of them just don't work, but we think EagleGet rocks.
