"Many hours spent addicted"

Wow. What a great game. I bought this right away back when it first came out years ago - had been playing the two previous versions before it - and it is still very playable.
It is VERY addictive though - hard to put it away.
Good graphics, fast action - sometimes REALLY fast... like when you hyperspace into the middle of a fleet battle.
The game does have very complex control options which can take a while to get comfortable with.
The in-depth and involved missions and story line make each playing experience different - even after playing the game through many times. I am still not sure I have uncovered everything the game has hidden.
This is one of the best games I ever came across. -
"The best thing about EV series..."

...is the EXPANDABILITY. The game data format is completely known. There are hundreds of user-created plugins (better visual effects, new equipment, etc) and even entire campaigns or universes.
Don't get me wrong, EV is great fun straight out of the box (so to speak). But the add-ons are what keep you coming back. -
"The first two? Mere practice."

Every once and a while, a game comes along which we Macintosh stalwarts can point to with a smug expression and say, "see THAT? Neener neener!" And while Ambrosia has long since ported this fantastic game over to the not-so-green pastures of the Windows community, at least we can still claim to have gotten it first.
Between this and the recent Star Control 2 revival, old-school gaming is still alive and well for the time being. -
"The Great SF Adventure game."

Exciting space battles, branching storylines, nice eye candy, a big universe to explore, and low hardware requirements, what's not to like? Lots of die-hard experts on Ambrosia's forums if you need help, too. -
"A 5 star universe!"

And yet another great game by ambrosia. I have been playing Escape Velocity since the early days and it's still as addictive as it was back then. The graphics just keep getting better, the universe bigger than ever and the sound effects are very very good for a shareware product. And the best of all: the storyline is actually good! You'll fail to find other products out there that can challenge this game in quality and fun.
Only suggestion tho, play this game only if you have $30 bucks in your pocket, because if you have to wait to save them, the waiting will be painful = ) -
